Question about classical music:

For classical music, should I...

(a) List only classical recordings released in the 1970s (probably won't bother with this because it seems too arbitrary to me)
(b) List only classical pieces composed/premiered in the 1970s (i.e. the date that you get if you visit a composition's wiki page)
(c) List only classical CDs which unambiguously meet both criteria, e.g. Philip Glass' North Star

?

I think most definitely b and c. The list shold consist of music of the 70s.

The only problem with that is it means some classical music we will never be allowed to vote for like Gorecki's 3rd symphony which was composed and premiered in the 70s, but wasn't released in a recording until the 90s. (This is just the first example to come to mind).

Anyways, I would like to recommend an album that will place highly on my list:

Anthony Braxton - Dortmund (1976) Quartet

RYM says this is from 1991, which is pretty odd seeing as how the year 1976 is right in the title. Are you sure when it was released?

I would be happy to include those too.

AMG often uses the recording date for the release date for things like that. Totally unreliable. Alas.

as dreww and pnoom have already done, recs would be much appreciated. i know ive heard at least 50 albums but more would give me a stronger list. right now this list is gonna be a lot of bowie and zeppelin.

My rec for the 70s, which I'll feature on my list most certainly.

I think joe checked it out, when I had recd a song, the entire record is as incredible(literally). It's termed under progressive electronic and experimental in RYM, and I think that sums it up perfectly, though I guess avante-garde is best suited. Very futuristic(to my ears) and from 1971 !!

most of my recs will just be re-established faves that are picks that are well known, but the love is too tr00 to pass up. Expect a hearty pimping of Ziggy Stardust

I've yet to hear that album actually, plenty of essentials I've yet to listen to. Hence, till I compile this list in July, I shall only listen to albums from the 70s.
