See the first post. I think they shouldn't be unless they consist only of music released in the 70s, if that, but that's not what the first post says. |

So something like Al Greens greatest hits works ? I guess compilations where the music was recorded and released in the 70s should be allowed. |

Hmmm...see, if that's the case, I'd want to include something like the Jackson Five Anthology--basically all-70s (one song released in late 69) and filled with some of my very favorite music of the decade. But, really, it's three albums picking and choosing from the best of sixteen different albums (it draws from Michael and Jermaine's solo work as well as the group's releases). I mean, on the one hand, I hate to leave out this great music, and there probably isn't one album from their Motown era that makes it for me because their albums then did have a fair amount of filler. But, still--is that really fair? |

just make sure the comps you choose are released in the 70's. That's really all I require. I mean if you found a compilation with 80's material but it was somehow released in the 70's, I'll take it, I mean my head would explode but I'd take it. Good examples would be Buzzcocks' Singles Going Steady or The Harder They Come Soundtrack |

I'm more thinking that greatest-hits type albums (and, for that matter, K-Tel sorts of various-artists albums) don't seem to fit. |

top 15 from my rough draft, so far... What's Going On - Marvin Gaye Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs - Derek & the Dominoes Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares, Vol I - Bulgarian Radio & TV Choir Innervisions - Stevie Wonder Solid Air - John Martyn Natural Elements - Shakti A Handful of Beauty - Shakti Onda Nova do Brasil - Luiz Eca Symbiosis - Bill Evans Dell'universo assente - Luciano Cilio The Duets - Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond Captain Beyond - Captain Beyond Aqualung - Jethro Tull First Utterance - Comus i also have an itch to pack the top 10 with keith jarrett and bill evans albums, but that would look ridiculous, and this was already difficult to make, as it is... :-/ |

The Koln Concert is a top 10 choice for me, but i'm also a newb who went straight for the most popular album first. and i'm a little unsure where to go next. |

My list would currently look something like this (because this is a draft list I did months ago on the matter). I'd say some things may drop (I think Paranoid will surely be a victim), some may rise (esp. Cosmo's Factory) and some others may get on (including From Here to Eternity, Zombie, and John Prine). And then I still have to listen to and account for all the awesome current and incoming suggestions. And I'll do some blurbs in the near future, Led! 1. The Stooges - Fun House 2. King Crimson - Red 3. The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street 4. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On 5. Pink Floyd - Meddle 6. Neu! - Neu! 7. The Stooges - Raw Power 8. Stevie Wonder - Innervisions 9. Miles Davis - On the Corner 10. Sly and the Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin On 11. Led Zeppelin - IV 12. King Crimson - Starless and Bible Black 13. Michael Jackson - Off the Wall 14. Nick Drake - Bryter Layter 15. Ramones - Ramones 16. Iggy Pop - Lust for Life 17. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here 18. Led Zeppelin - III 19. Neil Young - On the Beach 20. Iggy Pop - The Idiot 21. James Brown - The Payback 22. Brian Eno - Another Green World 23. Steve Reich - Music for 18 Musicians 24. Terry Callier - What Color is Love 25. Joni Mitchell - Blue 26. The Pop Group - Y 27. Cluster - Zuckerzeit 28. Big Star - #1 Record 29. Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece 30. The Cars - The Cars 31. Black Sabbath - Paranoid 32. Can - Ege Bamyasi 33. Gang of Four - Entertainment! 34.
