Since I just made a list for the Acclaimedmusic forum poll I thought I could just as well post it in here too. Very very cool list. Few questions though. Black Swan??? gtfo cuz that was terrible movie

And now for something completely serious. Is there a reason for not having any Fassbinder films on this list? Do you not like him or are you not familiar with him? Because he has made some absolute masterpieces that for my part can rank among the better work of Wenders and Herzog as far as the "German New Wave" goes, if there is such a thing.
Die Ehe der Maria Braun, Welt am Draht, Angst essen Seele auf, Die Niklashauser Fart are all masterpieces imo.

Quinn, are you updating the list on page one as we submit lists?

Not yet. I mean, lists are posted sporadically enough that'd be easy and make sense for me to update it each time, but nah. I was thinking more about doing it each few months (see the discussion a page or two back) and making more of a deal out of it to encourage updates or new lists. If you'd like though, I'll happily update it.

Naw, just whenever you feel like doing it. I don't think I've even submitted a list, yet. What's it supposed to be? Fifty?

25, 50, 100. Practically anything under 100 I'll use. If you're keen to submit a list, I'll hold off on updating the main one 'til you're done.

Don't know, I really enjoyed it. Much more so than "The Wrestler". But I could definitely see why people wouldn't like BS.

I've seen "Die Ehe der Maria Braun" and liked it alot. It is actually one of the films that I think might have been more worthy than some of the films towards the bottom of the list. It may very well rise as I watch more of his films. German TV showed most of them recently due to the 30th anniversary of his death and my Dad recorded most of them (though he missed "Angst essen Seele auf") so there may be a lot more Fassbinder on my next film list, whenever that will be made.

Yeah, watch as much Fassbinder as you can. That dude is for real, even though he did not put the same amount of technical effort into all his films.

As for Black Swan, I still prefer The Wrestler even though I dislike it quite a bit. Not an Aronofsky fan, really. I will probably always have soft spot for Requiem and The Fountain as those were films that I worshipped like crazy in my formative years. I now sort of chuckle at them as they both lose themselves entirely near their climaxes and when that climax finally arrives it is rendered quite comical. Black Swan just annoyed me after the first ten minutes or so and that shit just would not stop.

What exactly was it that annoyed you?

I think what I liked best about "Black Swan" was the juxtaposition of the ballet and her own very similar conflict. It somehow grabbed me more than Saura's "Carmen", which shows a similar overlap between a work of art and the "real" world. I also generally enjoy low fantasy movies (Amélie, Pan's Labyrinth) where the "reality" depicted in the film sometimes takes on a surrealistic touch and BS had quite a bit of that.
