Oh yeah I saw that one already, forgot to add it. I liked it a lot but it's lower tier Mann for me. Also I'm not the world's biggest Gary Cooper fan. Can you expand on why you liked it so much because it is a very long time ago wince I saw it.

The Far Country is actually one of the few Mann movies I've seen which I didn't love.

Mann's westerns:
1. The Tin Star
2. Winchester '73
3. The Furies
4. Bend of the River
5. The Man from Laramie
6. Man of the West
7. The Naked Spur
8. The Far Country

Wow, my favorite Mann Western is your least favorite. The Walter Brennan performance is what puts it over the top for me.

I'm actually not that big of a Cooper fan either. I usually find him too wooden in his dialogue and always seems to be working on a different level than the rest of his actors and in more awkward than superior ways. But Man of the West actually makes the best use of his kept-in wooden persona because it clashes well with the kind of dark past he's supposed to hide for the first half of the film. It's not as interesting to see someone with a short fuse reach their breaking point, but when a quiet reserved person does, it's way more poignant. I find the film to be the darkest of the Mann/Stewart westerns and one of the key reasons is because they replaced Stewart with Cooper. I suspect Stewart to have done a good job with the role, but I'm used to seeing him trek into dark territory in past films. And mostly like all great westerns, the film is a great morality play and serves as a precursor to Peckinpah. The whole cast is wonderful and it's harrowing to see them all take an eventual downfall because they're all drawn in ways where you see them as human beings, even the so called "bad guys". It has one of tne of the great deaths in cinema too.

I'll be editing to tweak the order, but those are the 100 movies. If I swap anything out, I'll make another post.

I've been trying to find a movie to eliminate so I can add Django Unchained. So far, I can't do it. Looks like it may just be my #101.

How much time you would all like? I was thinking maybe sometime over April I'll have it updated, but it depends how busy uni's going to be. May even be earlier than that.
