Dhani Jones, a linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals who has played rugby, too, says head injuries in that sport do happen, but they're mostly freak accidents. "In football, you're taught to hit with your face," he says. "You're always contacting with your 'hat,' which is your head."

Quote:
Arm tackles generally don't work in football. The players are too big and too strong.

That's really not true if done properly. Arm tackles still use the shoulder for the primary hit, but the arms help make sure the player doesn't get away after the original collision and increases the control in the tackle. And for less forceful tackles, if you tackle the player around the legs using the arms they're going to fall. I don't see many tackles in the NFL around the legs but they're highly effective. It's the only way a smaller guy can tackle a much bigger guy.
I believe when the term "arm tackle" is used here, it means to tackle someone with your arms and without the aid of your shoulder (i.e. just your arms and nothing else). It usually results in a broken tackle.

Oh yeah that's the definition I thought he meant. His definition of arm tackling is my definition of any form of tackling, heh. If you don't try to wrap up at all then it's just hitting.

As much as I think Fairly is a total scum bag, I think he's got a good NFL mindset.

I love Patriots management so much. Nate Solder? please and thank you. Mark Ingram for a 2012 first round pick and another 2011 second round pick? thank you kindly.

My Patriots Wish List

33rd pick: Ayers, Sheard, Brooks Reed or Bowers (or trade for 2012 first rounder)
56th pick: Justin Houston, Mikel Leshoure, Ryan Williams, Randall Cobb or Titus Young
60th pick: Allen Bailey, Sam Acho or an O-Lineman
74th pick: best available player

Yes he does. And they will be able to handle him coaching wise (Schwartz is good). More to the point the Lions are in the minority of teams in the top half of the first round that DIDN'T botch their pick.

Atlanta's trade is the most head scratching since the Ricky Williams trade and probably even less defensible. Not only are wide receivers rarely ever worth a top 10 pick (Megatron being a rare exception) but they gave up 5 picks to get him when they have other needs AND he has huge performance redflags from his college career. I wouldn't have even done it for Green and he's far more talented. Just dumb. Coming in silver and bronze for this one are Tennessee for Locker (yeah sure his team was shitty but so were Matt Ryan's and Cutler's teams and they both put up much better numbers, and in Cutler's case played in the much tougher defensive conference) and Ponder for Minnesota (any time you can spend a high first round pick on the poor man's Matt Hasselback you've just GOT to do it).

Don't really like the Ingram pick for you. Think he's incredibly overrated and the product of a ridiculously dominant college line where he didn't really even produce all that phenomenally adjusted for circumstances.

They got the picks; we got Ingram. I think he'll be fine here because the inside of our line is ridiculously good at run blocking. It almost made Julius Jones useful. On the same token, I don't think we really needed Ingram. Oh well.

Owen Marecic to the Browns. Neat. He was in my graduating class in high school.
