Nice. I need to tell my brother about this because he's the guy who got me into the show.

On an unrelated note, I had a stupidly-hungover moment. I opened up this link, read it and thought, "Holy crap! I have to go to DDD and share this with everyone," only to realize that that's where I got this link from in the first place.

Finished season 3. I think this might be my number 1 favourite work of art.

Some of my favourite scenes (only a few, there are so many) :

All amazing scenes there, Don. I can't to rewatch it again. Wanna finish Boardwalk Empire first, though.

Omar testifying is an incredible scene. "I robs drug dealers."

What I love about the writing is that it somehow manages to combine gritty realism with a theatrical, almost operatic quality. Some of those longer speeches (brilliantly acted) really make me think it's the 21st century's Shakespeare (okay so I might be going a bit far, but what else is there?).

I don't know about Shakespeare. One of the recurring motifs in so many of Shakespeare's plays is that the characters are autonomous beings able to change their future via their own free will. The Wire certainly goes against this idea, and David Simon has said as much. He has explicitly stated that he was not trying to evoke Shakespeare, but rather the decidedly more deterministic Greek Tragedians – Aeschylus, Euripides and Sophocles (no Aristophanes, or "funny boy," as Simon calls him). However, I suppose it might be a bit too esoteric to call The Wire the Greek Tragedy of the 21st century.

I meant in terms of quality and scope (not in the way it deals with its characters), and the fact that basically anybody living in an occidental society can connect to the characters (I for one am not American and have virtually no contact with drugs or racism but I still love the show). The same can't be said for importance of impact and influence though.

I'm just starting my rewatch of the series, and if any of you are doing the same, I would strongly recommend reading these blogs (and especially the comments).

Through this rewatch, I'm starting to think I like Avon a lot more than Stringer. I'll know for sure once I get to the end of season 3.
