People don't deserve a spot for being known. Justin Bieber is known more than Bo Diddley now-a-days, doesn't mean he deserves a spot on greatest artists. They get the spot for influence among drummers, not popularity. All the drummers ahead of them that are unknown, or that I know little of, I know are either way more creative or more influential among drummers. Is Terry Bozzio a household name? No, but among drummers he's unavoidable when discussing rock drums, creativity, or skill. Other than Barker and Grohl, the other two barely get on there. I could easily name some drummers that aren't on this list that would knock them off.

They do deserve a somewhat insignificant spot when they have a level of popularity that guarantees the fact that they have influenced more people than many of the people on the bottom of the list. You act as if there aren't many many more people who could be knocked off for having even less going for them than the influence these people possess and just lacking skill in general. There is.

Terry Bozzio isn't even an applicable example because we aren't talking about placements that effect his level (not to say I've seen anyone say anything about Justin's drumming that hasn't been harsh ridicule) we're talking about the bottom of the list, and the lowest placement that any of these people deserve right NOW would be for Joey, who would still be 120s, 130s at the worst (the highest being in like the 90s at best)

Joey Jordison does not deserve any placement on this list ever. Period. There are at least 200 drummers in rock more deserving by this criteria, influence included.

That songs not his best, it's really not that hard, it's just a good drum performance, it is really overrated, outside of the solo the song is really simple. However, it does show musicianship, and I'm not denying that he does have a ton of skill, which is better displayed in some of his other works.

I think Mangini should move up now after hearing dream theaters new album he proved that he is one hell of a rock drummer and top 30 most skilled

Mangini now definitely has the potential to move up, though his fault here is in influence, where Portnoy's been one of the major drum influences of the last 15 years, DT has a much bigger following now and almost all drummers know of him, if just for the myth of the man with perfect precision. Mangini could be more skilled, but right now I'd have a hard time judging the influence and innovation. He still has the creativity and skill to be moved up though for sure.

I also feel like opening this can of worms again, because I believe as long as we stick with the current rating system, this placement is justified: Bruford for number 1.

ok I am admitting biased here ,but this list should see gadd on here somewhere he did do somework with rock guys like paul simon and joni mitchell ,paul mccartney , steely dan, and ringo starr , he has 3 songs in the greatest rock drums lists, he could have more arguably lets see him get on this list .

ignoring skill, why do you think Peart surpasses Moon? Yes, Bruford is an easy #1 IMO

i agree bruford would mop neil peart, brufords heart of the sunrise is some of the greatest drumming I ever heard and I am a jazz guy, his rolls are clean, his linear FILLS are smooth and innovative, his dynamics perfect, and he has an ability to know when to lay off the kit , he never over drums , he definately would win against peart.

Either I'm completely retarded or Peart has never touched Heart of the Sunrise, or for that matter the Red album or the Discipline album
