San, do you know the San Bernadino footage from 72? I've always found it really strange that someone would just film 4 minute of random 20 sec segments throughout - I wonder if there's more?

There are other shows like this as well (at least a couple from 1975 and 77 for sure). I have a couple of theories on this.

The first is that these are teases from longer segments we may never see

or

The filmers knew that they only had a small amount of film available, so in order to get as many different songs as possible, they could only film short portions of each.

I tend to lean towards scenario #2.

In fact, now that I think about it, almost all the 8 mm Zep film I've seen is broken up in to segments like this. I can think of examples like this as far back as 1969, and also examples from 70, 71, 72, 75 and 77. Probably other years as well.

Yeah, the latter was always what I think might be the case, but if I was in that situation, I think I may just try and do one continous segment. Anyway, it's my favourite bit of amateur Zep footage.

I've always found it frustrating that the 8 mm film is almost always broken up in to short segements. I'd rather have just one shorter, but continuous segment of film.

My favorite Zep 8 mm is from MSG 77. Here is a portion:

San,
You dont happen to have a quality version of the Gonzaga 68 show, would you? Not even sure if one exists, but the youtube songs from it sound like shit, though you can still tell that Plant is on fire.

There aren't any higher quality versions of that I'm afraid. Maybe there's a soundboard of it somewhere, but who knows if that will ever surface. There are other shows from that period where you can hear Plant better and he's in similarly amazing form.

4/26/1969 is a scorching performance. Better audio but still so so. Most of the early sbds either sound terrible or catch Plant on a rare off-night. 10/10/1969 from Paris pretty good. FM

Georgi, what's the date from Boston in May '69 where there is a Communication Breakdown where Page's string breaks and there's a little harmonica jam while he fixes it? Plant is outstanding during that show.

I know the one you mean - I can't remember the date though. My encyclopedic knowledge of live Zep has deserted me I'm afraid.

You're probably thinking of 1/26/1969.

I'm thinking of 5/27/1969.

Would one of you guys be able to upload plants 5 best gigs in some form. If not 5, then the complete Robert Plant Experience and Boston Tea Party shows would make me love you! Haha

The IMTOD where Plant throws in Rip It Up is one of the great Zep live moments.

That's one of my favorites. 6/22 has an all-time great IMTOD as well. Includes parts of You Shook Me and The Lemon Song.
