No he sucks period. RBIs don't really measure anything. They're a worse stat than average, which is pretty bad.

as you guys wer etyping out them fancy paragraphs i was watching ibanez do his par tsweeping the braves

Also yeah, Fangraphs WAR>BR, though it's not as different for pitchers as it is for hitters.

Alsox2, wins are about as bad a measurement of individual talent/production as RBIs are for hitters, so the fact that Greinke "only" won 16 games is pretty irrelevant when you're talking about the quality of his 09 season.

Wins are worse IMO, but I'm actually okay with looking at them when you're comparing pitchers that mostly do complete games like in the '70s.

In the same way I'm OK with looking at saves I'm OK if you're talking 70s multi-inning saves (or Mariano Rivera playoff saves).

Rays just made things real interesting again with that sweep.

Sorry to steer this back to the Phillies. For the 4th starter, would you rather have Roy Oswalt or Vance Worley? This assumes Oswalt is healthy.

I think you have to go with the vet but have Vance Vance revolution in the bullpen just in case

The Reds may have been eliminated but I'm not about to let this nonsense continue.

Realistic Reds offseason plan:

Contract extension for BP
Try to find a top-end starter (Shields is obtainable, and I think that King Felix is, too, but it would cost several arms and several legs. I think its worth it)
Groom Francisco or Alonso to be Rolen's replacement or trade one of them (if not in a pitching package) for his replacement
SS and LF have been black holes offensively for us and a good solution isn't immediately available. no se hermanos no se
Find a cheap closer (Decline option on CoCo, possibly re-sign him for cheap, or take a look at the number of free agent options)

Buchholz should help mattes in the sense that what you are trotting out at 2-5 right now probably wouldn't frighten a college team but I doubt he'll be able to pitch particularly effectively. It all comes down to the series with the Rays. If you can get a split with the Rays I guarantee you win the division. If you lose 3 it's a little more harry but I think with the Rays playing the Yanks twice as much you can hold on to a one game lead. You get swept though (which is a real possibility) and I think the team folds and you miss. That series is all that matters.

Edit:

Well after tonight that gives you a little sigh of relief. You still have to win at least one against them.

thank good they can hit. This team will be fine once they get Beckett back and Lester's last performance was a fluke, he won't pitch that poorly again. Bard also doesn't normally pitch this bad and should turn things around. Lackey sucks though, the Red Sox need to be done with him. His h/9 this year is astronomical

Bard is pitching this bad because he's gassed. The whole bull pen is because they've had to cover for so many starts over the past month.

pgm that's a trick question -- it doesn't matter because they'll both be so much better than the person they're up against
