Ted Nugent wants to throw Grandmaster Flash, ABBA, Patti Smith and Madonna out of the Rock Hall and he doesn't want to be in with them. Epic Ted Nugent rant on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Claims Jann Wenner will never let him in over his gun stance.

Also, "Chicago" had seven letters and seven members until a game of rumored Russian Roulette. Then there were six, just like the six letters in "Barack", who is an "ally" of Russia. Keeping one's nuclear rivals close can be seen as a six-lettered gamble itself, and gambling was born of the Chicago mob scene. Seven Blackhawks on the ice would have been too many.

Oh I just remembered that Judas Priest is not in the hall of fame yet. How the fuck is that possible? Why does Metallica get in RIGHT AWAY and Priest isn't? This is proof that metal doesnt matter to the hall of fame unless if you sell MILLIONS of records. If Metallica didn't make the Black Album then they probally would get ignored too or if they kept their 80's style and didn't change they would get ignored by the hall of fame.

He won't get in because he's not worthy. He's got two songs as a solo artist that are noteworthy: "Cat Scratch Fever" and "Stranglehold". They aren't enough.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame isn't fair. They lose credibility when bands like Judas Priest aren't in and I don't know for sure but is Iron Maiden not in the hall either? Metallica is more commercial than the others so they get in immediately. BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!

The inductees are listed on the first page of this thread. Iron Maiden is not in.

When the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame first started, if someone's name was separate from the rest of the group, the nominators tended to nominate the main person rather than the whole group.

STUPID!

The Supremes, The Temptations, The Four Tops were all inducted! Why not The Miracles?

The Miracles should have been inducted in 1987 as the Miracles, not as Smokey Robinson. To this day, still no Miracles in the Rock Hall, but 2012 could be the year.

The Miracles

01. William "Smokey" Robinson
02. Warren "Pete" Moore
03. Robert "Bobby" Rogers
04. Ronald "Ronnie" White
05. Claudette Rogers
06. Marvin "Marv" Tarplin
07. Billy Griffin

The Miracles started out as The Miracles. They were the Miracles for 8 years, and charted as The Miracles for 8 years, and then they became Smokey Robinson and the Miracles for 7 years, and then they became The Miracles again for 5 more years. The Miracles were Motown's first group. Claudette Rogers of The Miracles was called the First Lady of Motown. The Miracles have to be nominated and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as The Miracles, (in the main performers category; not the sidemen category) and Smokey Robinson should be inducted with them as well. Inducting the group as The Miracles (not Smokey Robinson & The Miracles) would also allow for the induction of Smokey Robinson's replacement, Billy Griffin.

The Rascals changed their name to The Young Rascals, and they were inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame as The (Young) Rascals. This was an induction for their entire body of work, both, as The Rascals and The Young Rascals. So inducting The Miracles as The Miracles would count their entire body of work in the induction, including the work produced as Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, since Smokey Robinson was a Miracle to begin with!

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inducted 12 members of the Grateful Dead in 1994, including Robert Hunter, the lyricist for the band! That's right, they inducted the lyricist as a member of the band! They inducted a non-performer in the performers category! So, the Rock Hall better induct Marvin Tarplin with The Miracles. Marvin Tarplin was a member of the Miracles. He was not a sideman. He was their guitarist and songwriter.

The people responsible for not nominating and inducting The Miracles as The Miracles in 1987

You would think these people would know what to do

The 1986 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominating Committee

Ahmet Ertegun
John Hammond
Bob Hilburn
Bob Krasnow
Kurt Loder
Norm N. Nite
Nile Rodgers
Seymour Stein
Jann Wenner
Jerry Wexler

In an interview with SOUL PATROL Claudette Rogers Robinson of THE MIRACLES stated the following:

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame may feel that The Miracles are in the hall of fame because of the fact that Smokey was inducted in 1987. Robert (Bobby) Rogers (a member of the Miracles) has spoken to some of the board members of the Hall of Fame, and they said The Miracles are already in there, and Bobby said no we're not! Maybe Smokey was inducted because of his songwriting. There is no envy. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

http://rockhall.com/event/Smokey/live/

Smokey was interviewed on On Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the Roll Hall of Fame Museum’s Foster Theater. During the interview, Smokey said that he has been actively campaigning for the induction of ALL of the Miracles into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. The video was streamed live on The Rock Hall website that day. 3 members of the Nominating Committee were in attendance, and 1 of them, Dr. Lauren Onkey, the Rock Hall’s Vice President of Education and Public Programs, actually conducted the interview. Her response to Smokey was : "I second THAT emotion ".

The First R&RHoF Screw-Up Started with the First Group Inducted - Where's Bobby Nunn and Leon Hughes of the Coasters?

http://ourrockandrollhalloffame71305.yu ... -Nunn--Leo

The Inductees

The Coasters

Carl Gardner
Cornell Gunter
Billy Guy
Will "Dub" Jones

Not Inducted

Bobby Nunn
Leon Hughes

Here's some trivia everyone on this board probably knows - the first group inducted into the R&RHoF were the Coasters in 1987.

Now, by "screw-up", I'm not talking about snubbing a group over and over and over and over. If that were a screw-up, there would be a few hundred screw-ups by the second year, and the R&RHoF would never recover.

No, by "screw-up", I mean they either failed to induct all the important members of a group, they forgot to induct a group along with its lead singer, or they inducted someone in one category when it was far more appropriate to induct them in another category.

Now, of the Coasters' songs, how many people here feel "Searchin'" (#3 in 1957) and "Young Blood" (#8 in 1957) were important songs? I mean, yes, we're only talking about two songs, and one could say we're only talking about one single, since both songs were on each side of what was called a "double A side" single. Well, consider this: after the fragmentation of the Robins, when Bobby Nunn and Leon Hughes joined Carl Gardner and Billy Guy to form the Coasters, the Coasters recorded a number of songs, mostly if not entirely Leiber and Stoller songs. None of them really broke through until "Searchin'" and "Young Blood" both went top ten. "Searchin'" and "Young Blood" put the Coasters on the map. It's from those two songs that all the other songs sprung. And Nunn and Hughes were on those two songs, as well as all their hits prior.

And Nunn and Hughes left the group after those two songs, replaced by Cornell Gunter and Will "Dub" Jones joined the group. Gardner, Guy, Gunter and Jones had top ten hits with "Yakety Yak", "Charlie Brown", "Along Came Jones" and "Poison Ivy". Well, I'm not sure if Jones was with the group for "Yakety Yak", but he was definitely there by "Charlie Brown."

Gardner, Guy, Gunter and Jones were the only ones inducted. Nunn and Hughes were not.

This wouldn't happen nowadays. Nowadays, every member present during important recordings is inducted. Well, unless the group has 100 members like Parliament-Funkadelic did, which then they turn it over to an expert to help them sort out who should be inducted (16 members were chosen to be inducted).

This issue becomes important when one considers that the only one of the six of these guys who is still alive is Leon Hughes. The rest are all dead.

So when you talk of the Miracles or the Midnighters or the Crickets or the Comets or Bruce Johnston or Gram Parsons or Bob Welch or Ronnie James Dio or whoever else you want to talk about, please also remember Bobby Nunn and Leon Hughes of the Coasters.

They were unfortunately the first.

Popularity is a legitmate consideration. How do you figure that Judas Priest and Iron Maiden are as deserving as Metallica?

Pfft. "Cat Scratch Fever" and "Stranglehold" don't exactly scream "Hall of Fame."

Remember what happened in 2011? All the inductees were artists from the 60s-70s: Darlene Love, Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, Leon Russell, Tom Waits, Dr. John. Expect that trend to continue in 2012 with the voters voting for their peers, but with one exception. Remember what happened in 2009? Metallica, an 80s-90s metal act was inducted. Keeping all that in mind, here is my final prediction followed by more reasons why, but I'm only sure on 4 of the 5 inductees:

Thinking like the Rock Hall...

THE 2012 ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME

01. The Small Faces / The Faces
02. Heart
03. Guns N' Roses
04. Freddie King
05. War or Donovan or Laura Nyro or Donna Summer or The Spinners

MY REASONS:

01. THE SMALL FACES / THE FACES

A lot of star power here! Big names with lots of big name friends who will be voting for them! Steve Marriott will finally be inducted, and Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart will get second inductions. Hopefully Rod Stewart will attend this time. He missed his first induction in 1994 because an earthquake damaged his house and he had to tend to that.

Is it possible that maybe the Rock Hall nominated them as The Small Faces/The Faces, but they will induct them separately, and we'll have 6 instead of 5 inductees next year? It could be what the Rock Hall's plan is. I'm going to email them and tell them to do it that way. If they nominated Wanda Jackson in the main performers category and then inducted her as an early influence, I think they could nominate The Small Faces/The Faces together and then induct them separately. Ian McLagan, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones will join Stephen Stills as the only inductees to be inducted twice in the same year. We'll get two separate induction speeches and two performances.

02. HEART

Heart was interviewed by the Rock Hall this year. Out of all the women nominated this year (Heart, Joan Jett, Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, Laura Nyro), only Heart and Joan Jett are Rock And Roll. Heart came first and they should be inducted first. Plus, Joan Jett wasn't really that big. Also, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts shouldn't be inducted before all the artists they have covered: The Arrows, Tommy James and the Shondells, and Gary Glitter.

03. GUNS N' ROSES

Out of all the 80s-90s all-male Rock acts nominated this year (Guns N' Roses, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Cure), Guns N' Roses are the biggest, the best, and the most respected by their predecessors. Members of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Cream, The Yardbirds, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Queen, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Metallica, and many others will be voting for Guns N' Roses (this year's Metallica). Bon Jovi they are not! The Rock Hall voters will continue to ignore the Beastie Boys and the Red Hot Chili Peppers this year.

04. FREDDIE KING

Legendary Blues-Rock guitarist. Need I say more? All inducted guitarists will be voting for him; B.B. King and Eric Clapton included. He is a shoe-in. Chuck Willis and Joe Tex he is not. Elton John mentioned Freddie King in his induction speech for Leon Russell earlier this year. Leon Russell worked with Freddie King. Leon Russell signed Freddie King to his Shelter Records late in his career.

05. War or Donovan or Laura Nyro or Donna Summer or The Spinners

A second induction for Eric Burdon? Two singer/songwriters, Disco, and an R&B group. I don't know what will happen here!

A SIDE NOTE:

Three connections to Elton John and Bernie Taupin on the ballot this year:

Heart, Guns N' Roses, The Small Faces/The Faces (Rod Stewart)

Heart are known to be fans of Elton John and Bernie Taupin. They have mentioned it numerous times. Most recently, Ann Wilson's blog on the Rock Hall site. Heart recorded and scored a number one hit in 1985-1986 with the song These Dreams, written by Bernie Taupin and Martin Page.

Guns N' Roses are also known as Elton John and Bernie Taupin fans. Axl Rose gave the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction speech for Elton John in 1994. Elton John and Axl Rose appeared together in concert numerous times in the 90s: Freddie Mercury (Queen) tribute concert and MTV music awards.

Rod Stewart has recorded songs with lyrics by Bernie Taupin. Rod Stewart and Elton John were both inducted in 1994. Alice Cooper and Leon Russell, who have also recorded songs with lyrics by Bernie Taupin, were both inducted in 2011. Maybe we'll see Rod Stewart inducted again in 2012, as well as Heart.

All this is leading me to believe that Bernie Taupin will be inducted in 2012, along with other writers in the non-performers category.

NON-PERFORMER CANDIDATES FOR INDUCTION INTO THE ROCK HALL

Cosimo Matassa, Willie Mitchell, Bernie Lowe, Tom Dowd, John Simon, Arif Mardin, Phil Ramone, Quincy Jones, Richard Barrett, Robert Blackwell, Bob Crewe, David Porter, Bernie Taupin, David Foster, Jim Steinman, Carole Bayer Sager, Diane Warren, Wolfman Jack, Casey Kasem

Kal Mann and Dave Appell
Bert Berns and Jerry Ragovoy
Norman Whitfield and Barret Strong
Burt Bacharach and Hal David
Henry Cosby and Sylvia Moy
Thom Bell and Linda Creed
Boudleaux and Felice Bryant
Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson

I don't know who'll be inducted, but I think the 4 best choices are Donna Summer, The Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Guns 'n' Roses. The 5th choice could be War, Heart, The Spinners, or Eric B & Rakim.
