He could never "take their originality" as he predates all those vocalists. And yeah, he's definitely more orignal than every one of those guys.

I don't know. I might say MJ could be more original then Charles. Don't get me wrong, personally I think Charles shoves his meaty cock down MJ's throat any day.

holy shit gray, you're RIGHT! I've learnt SO much about music by reading the last few posts that it outdoes everything that the music discussion forum could offer! thanks for opening my eyes to the vast learning experiences available here!

MJ is not very original. He stole so many of his tricks from Jackie Wilson.

Machine Head, you can suck my misshapen gonads if you disagree with me on what kinds of discussion are enjoyable.

Now, when you say tricks, we are still talking about vocals here, correct. Because I thought MJ only stole Jackie's dance moves, and practically ignored his singing whilst studying him.

Ray Charles over MJ?

Uh, yes actually. He destroys MJ in influence and it's not close, especially if we're talking overall scope and development of rock vocals. Ray is also much more original than MJ was, with the way he fused together a multitude of different stylistic elements to achieve a particular sound (just like Presley was doing).
MJ beats him in skill, and that's really about the only thing I see him winning.

All of the above is correct. Neg, would you weigh in on Wonder vs. Gillan.

The criteria currently on the list are these: Influence, Impact, Reputation / Acclaim, skill, right?

Impact was replaced with originality.
