Ray Charles over MJ?

Uh, yes actually. He destroys MJ in influence and it's not close, especially if we're talking overall scope and development of rock vocals. Ray is also much more original than MJ was, with the way he fused together a multitude of different stylistic elements to achieve a particular sound (just like Presley was doing).
MJ beats him in skill, and that's really about the only thing I see him winning.

As a side note, Ray Charles was listed at #2 on Rolling Stone's list (which was overall quite terrible, but it does say quite a bit about Ray's influence)

Is there a revised list at the moment, or is what I see on page one, what it is.

I've thought for a while Ray Charles is way too low, having him near Jim Morrison is kind of odd...if anything he should be top 15, because his massive wins in nearly every criteria aspect except tech skill. Also, Jackson can move up, we need to stop paying attention to Patrick's posts, they continue to by bias and idiotic.

Uggh...the discussion for this list has been derailed countless times and is so shaken up it's beginning to really get annoying. I'm just gonna submit an idea of what I think is correct with no bias towards soul or metal and just see how it goes, imagine that's the real rankings, and just quit there unless discussion improves, though we are moving in the right direction recently.

1. Freddie Mercury
2. Elvis Presley
3. Robert Plant
4. Sam Cooke
5. Roy Orbison
6. Jackie Wilson
7. Ian Gillan
8. Stevie Wonder
9. Ray Charles
10. Jeff Buckley
11. Michael Jackson
12. Steve Perry
13. Otis Redding
14. Roger Daltrey
15. Clyde McPhatter
16. Rob Halford
17. Little Richard
18. Marvin Gaye
19. Paul McCartney
20. Al Green/Bruce Dickenson
21. Bruce Dickinson/Al Green
22. Ronnie James Dio
23. James Brown
24. Jim Morrison
25. John Lennon
26. Smokey Robinson
27. Curtis Mayfield
28. Chris Cornell
29. Brian Wilson
30. Paul Rodgers

This is my current opinion, though MJ could move below Redding, I really don't know. But yeah, this is my unbias evaluation of what I think the list should look like. Dickinson may be too low for you guys, but I really can't put him above Macca or Gaye, so him vs. Al Green is up for grabs. Also yes I think Charles is top 10 I have no idea why he wasn't before. Wonder is a beast vocalist with mega skill and influence, and although I love him and everything he does, his miles of skill I think still don't take Gillan. I also think Gillan wins Influence though it's close.

No, MJ belongs up there.

So does he stay at 11 in my list or move Buckley to 11 and MJ takes 10? Then is there anything else you think I'm off with? Other than MJ being 10 or 11 I'm pretty happy with my list and think I can leave it at that until you guys want to hit the 40+, this'll be my top 30 and all the contributin' I'll be doing.

Influence could be either but I think Wonder is definitely more acclaimed than Gillan.

Then what exactly am I supposed to reference? It's a bit hard to find answers in 240 some pages.
