I said that happened to me, not you.

No I didn't. They did an exellent, unique take on it, but I would never say it's better.

i just don't like jam bands, period. like you don't like ambient music. why do you have to pretend like people haven't spent enough time listening to 5000 'dead bootlegs so they are not in a position to judge?

I love ambient music.

And "jam band" is an invented term. Just like "indie music".

Seriously, take a deep breath. You're getting worked up about things I've never said and opinions I've never had.

I'd actually put All I Need near the bottom of the album - something about the way the bass sounds on it - not as organic as many of the other beats on the album. As far as beats go, I'm pretty set on Never Change being the beat of the album, but of course all of the Kanye beats are stellar. Recently, I've been digging the Just Blaze beats though (who is a ridiculously consistent producer) - U Don't Know and especially Song Cry are just brilliant.

"U Don't Know" is incredible. Jay responding to the sample's vocals ("you don't know...what you're doing") every time is fantastic. Maybe the most triumphant song ever recorded. Plus it is the first track in one of my best three-tracks-in-a-row for a mixtape:

Jay Z "U Don't Know"
Missy Elliott "Take Away"
Ginuwine "Pony"

Passion Pit's Manners is the best electronic album of the last 10 years.

I never used to like it that much - something about the punchy MPC feel to it, but one day it just clicked as one of the most badass tracks I've heard. Have you heard the second version, on The Blueprint II? I remember reading that Just Blaze said it was how he would have made the beat had he more time (on a Complex feature going through all his best beats) but I'm not convinced it's any better than the original.

and santropez, why the fuck did you bring up ambient music as an analogy to 'boring' if you like it? what are we arguing now - semantics? ffs

Yeah, I don't know why exactly, but I just adore Manners to no end. I think the singing matches perfectly with the desperation of the lyrics, and the music itself is just so fun and interesting.

I brought up ambient because many people consider it to be inherently boring, as many people consider GD to be inherently boring. I was trying to level the playing field. It looks like I touched a nerve, as you did with me.

Do you think there is a possiblity that there actully is redeeming value to their music or are you just assuming that I like shitty music?

this is good and all, but manners is hardly an electronic album

why are we caring about what 'many' people think when i was stating my opinion...there was no playing field here.

i think the dead are shit. if you want to extend that to me thinking you like only shitty music, well be my guest.

Yeah, I guess so. Some people are broader in their definition of electronic and some people aren't as broad. If Manners isn't an electronic album, I'm not sure I'd consider Air's Moon Safari or Portishead's Dummy electronic either. They all contain plenty of live drums, guitar, and bass guitar as well as other live, acoustic instruments. Passion Pit probably more so than the latter two, but they also slather their songs in tons of synths as well.
