Yeah, Bush did a great job between 2001 and early 2009.

Guys, dont encourage Bruce to post more of this pointless drivel. Please.
We're talking about music and vocalists here. Nobody gives a flying fuck if blacks can run faster than whites.

Now, can we work with this...

1. Elvis Presley
2. Freddie Mercury
3. Aretha Franklin
4. Sam Cooke
5. Robert Plant
6. Clyde McPhatter
7. Roy Orbison
8. Etta James
9. Little Richard
10. Otis Redding

This is my shot:

1. Elvis Presley
2. Freddie Mercury
3. Aretha Franklin
4. Sam Cooke
5. Robert Plant
6. Clyde McPhatter
7. Michael Jackson
8. Stevie Wonder
9. Roy Orbison
10. Etta James/Jackie Wilson

That looks pretty solid to me

So we mostly agree on Redding and Richard > Wonder and Jackson?

Honestly, there are other singers who may be ahead of Redding and Richard. Gillan, Gaye, Perry, Houston, Charles, Buckey and others ... imo.

Roger Daltrey is greater than Gillan. We've been over this before

Based in this criteria? How?

Daltrey is more skilled, and has just about as much influence and musical impact. They're both pretty evenly matched in those two areas, and Daltrey takes skill, so he gets the win slightly.

Bruno,
Out of all the names you mentioned, IMO only Marvin Gaye has a shot at overtaking Richard or Redding.
Why are you still not convinced? Bruce posted a TON of quotes from artists on Otis Redding a few pages back, his musical impact is on another level. Skill is also very strong and influence is huge.
Relatively the same with Richard.
Now show me all this influence that you think Stevie Wonder has, and we'll see if it's in the same dimension as Richard's and Redding's.

I recognize the legacy of Richard and Redding, but in my knowledge, they would be below of Jackson-Wonder-Orbison-Wilson and fighting with the others that I mentioned to get into the top 15.
I've talked about the influence of Wonder and Jackson here and the importance of both in how it reflected and reflects in singers of last decades. Paul and Hebs agreed in this.

They are references to the modern r&b and pop music. There are dozens of singers who were influenced by them. If this is not musical impact, I don't know what we're talking about. Not to mention that the legacy of two are larger in the lasting popularity, similar to the case of Plant x Clyde, that Mint compared well.

Front-paged unless we can decide on something else.

So why is influence on today more important than influence on any other period in rock?

You dont think there are at least "dozens of singers" who were also influenced by Redding and Richard?!
Maybe couple hundred dozens....

Nice, but you switched Freddie and Aretha on the front.

I didn't say that is more important.
I just think that the influence of Jackson and Wonder is more significant in vocals terms. And I think that affected more artists.

Where's paul and herbs to help me here?

I wanted to know the Cruz's opinion on Richard and Redding being ahead of Jackson, Wonder and Wilson. Still not seem right this top 10.
