I find Georgi's refutation definitive.

Not at all

No Surprises is excellent but Climbing up the Walls, Electioneering, Fitter Happier, The Tourist, and Lucky are nowhere near as good as the first side.

This will sound crazy but I always thought those songs served as a good segue to Kid A.

e.g if you listen to OK Computer and Kid A back to back the last songs on OK Computer lead up to Kid A perfectly.

edit: fixed what I was trying to say

Kid A is so, so much better
maybe because I was introduced to it after reading that Chuck Klosterman thing, and albums sometimes seem so much better when you think of them as concept albums, but Kid A has this beautiful cohesiveness

The 9/11 thing right? Klosterman gives a very personal, specific reason why he wrote about that in "Killing Yourself to Live". It's intriguing, but can be easily argued against, and i'm probably the biggest Klosterman apologist on the entire forum.

I'd say OKC towers over KA in terms of cohesiveness.

I know it's really a huge coincidence but when I first heard Kid A and came to appreciate that I had it on my mind, and when you set images like that to your mind, and my earlier perception of Kid A as this vast wilderness of electronica (I really never listened to it until November 2011) made it seem so much more epic, and it really is

At the golden ratio of In Rainbows, which occurs 2 minutes 49 seconds into "Reckoner," the background vocals can be heard singing "In Rainbows." It was the ancient Greek mathematician Euclid, who first defined the golden ratio, an aesthetically pleasing proportioning within a piece. A mathematical constant, the golden ratio is calculated as approximately 1.6180339887. In a work of art it appears at 1/1.618, or about 61.8% of a way through. On In Rainbows 2 minutes 49 seconds into "Reckoner" is 61.8% of the way through the album.

I think Kid A is a much better example of the first half of an album being better than the second half than OK Computer is.

To me, Optimistic and In Limbo are notch below anything else on Kid A (including Treefingers), and turn an amazingly cohesive album into just a collection of mostly similar-sounding songs. Granted, I still love Kid A, and Optimistic and In Limbo are both great songs - they just clutter it up a bit, I guess. The other three songs on the second half are all totally incredible, though.

You can argue that Optimistic and In Limbo are too similar to each other but I don't think they are too similar to anything else on the album, they're the closest thing Kid A gets to guitar based rock.

In the Kid A house, "Optimistic" is the furnace, and "In Limbo" is the expanding and contracting stairwell.
