Kid A is so, so much better
maybe because I was introduced to it after reading that Chuck Klosterman thing, and albums sometimes seem so much better when you think of them as concept albums, but Kid A has this beautiful cohesiveness

The 9/11 thing right? Klosterman gives a very personal, specific reason why he wrote about that in "Killing Yourself to Live". It's intriguing, but can be easily argued against, and i'm probably the biggest Klosterman apologist on the entire forum.

I know it's really a huge coincidence but when I first heard Kid A and came to appreciate that I had it on my mind, and when you set images like that to your mind, and my earlier perception of Kid A as this vast wilderness of electronica (I really never listened to it until November 2011) made it seem so much more epic, and it really is

I think Kid A is a much better example of the first half of an album being better than the second half than OK Computer is.

To me, Optimistic and In Limbo are notch below anything else on Kid A (including Treefingers), and turn an amazingly cohesive album into just a collection of mostly similar-sounding songs. Granted, I still love Kid A, and Optimistic and In Limbo are both great songs - they just clutter it up a bit, I guess. The other three songs on the second half are all totally incredible, though.

You can argue that Optimistic and In Limbo are too similar to each other but I don't think they are too similar to anything else on the album, they're the closest thing Kid A gets to guitar based rock.
