Stryder, Gillan more influential than Ray Charles?! Citation needed.

I'd say Gillan's vocal influence on metal is bigger than Charles' whole vocal influence on rock.

Proportionally... Maybe, I guess? But Rock is many times bigger than Metal and Charles' influence is many times bigger than Gillan's.

Ozzy would do VERY well in musical impact, but has virtually no vocal influence or skill that's noteworthy.

Bruno, I dont think Celine Dion is rock in any way. Phenomenal talent though.

To be honest I don't think Mariah and Whitney are more rock than Celine for that matter.

Very true but I'm talking about Metal. My post was in response to this statement;

"It's an extremely close race between, undeniably, the three definitive heavy metal singers.
Bruce Dickinson > Rob Halford > Ronnie James Dio"

Vocal technical skills have become less and less important in metal since the 80's and this is especially true now. In today's Metal it's more about attitude and delivery which is where Ozzy excels. Guys like Gillan, Halford et al have almost no influence on modern metal which is more influenced by Ozzy and Lemmy. You guys seem to be stuck in the past which is a strange statement coming from an old guy like myself (I'm 67). This list is about vocalists/Front men more than about singers in a pure sense.

Yes, they are POP singers but it seems that Rock has grown to encompass all forms of popular music, at least by the media. Personally I would never consider any of those 3 to be Rock.
