good trade for all teams, though it seems like the Diamondbacks got fleeced.

Yeah, with a much different approach. Aside from lincecum, how many bad contracts on the books?

Zito and Lincecum are both signed for one more year at ~$22M. After them, the worst contract is probably Jeremy Affeldt's new deal (3y, $18M).

But that's not what I was saying. The Dodgers are spending big not to emulate us but to annihilate us.

because Jeff Francoeur is the future and the past, the alpha and the omega

The almost more amazing thing is that Billy Beane turned down a trade of Brett Anderson for Myers (though I suppose the A's have an outfield glut).

Thanks to the bad ass gift chemo Ali got me, I now know that Anthony gose went first to third on singles 7/8 times- small as hell sample but a ridic high %- and was +24 base runner in just 189 PAs/56 times on base.

Anyone else think the Angles spent too much on Hamilton?

Power hitters are expensive. I thought he'd get another year or two from somebody, tbh. He probably won't be worth the contract by year 5 but it's not nearly as ridiculous as Pujols' deal.

As someone who is pretty intimately familiar with Hamilton's time here let me sound a small note of dissent on that. First, his hitting value in left is signficantly less than what it is in Center. Additionally, he's one of the most high varience players out there and has a terrible approach (things that unlike Pujols consistent ability to get on base) will hurt his long term value even more. His body is not in peak condition and we don't know if he'll have a relapse away from his safer environment and accountability. So I'd say it's worse than Pujols contract in that sense but with the 5 years being shorter probably around the same.

Too many years, but not too much money. I think it was a good pickup, overall.

I wish the Phillies got him (although, I wouldn't have give him 5 years, so it would have been impossible).

What's the going rate for a WAR now? $5 million? Hamilton is not a 5-WAR player; he's only cracked it once.

Rate's about to go way up with the new TV deal so you have to account for inflation. I suspect it will move into the 6 million range at least.

That's true, but there's also age regression on the part of Hamilton.
