Shit I completely forgot about Horror Show.

1. Opeth - Blackwater Park
2. Tool - Lateralus
3. System of a Down - Toxicity
4. Converge - Jane Doe
5. Neurosis - A Sun that Never Sets
6. Pig Destroyer - Prowler in the Yard
7. My Dying Bride - The Dreadful Hours
8. Iced Earth - The Horror Show
9. Windir- 1184
10. Thorns - Thorns

This looks pretty good, I would consider Ensiferum, Karma, From Wisdom to Hate or Terria could replace Horror Show and Thorns.

Looks good to me. I'll give up on Mutter since it sucks anyway.

I would argue that Horror Show doesn't need to be there. For one, as great as Iced Earth is, they don't really have a defining album or set of albums where most of their greatness lies. But, for the sake of argument, albums like Burnt Offerings and Something Wicked This Way Comes would garner that credit. I'd say Horror Show has popularity to a degree, but definitely not exceeding that of Mutter. I'd also give Mutter the benefit in impact; an album that helped make non Anglophone metal more accessible and popular. So even giving Horror Show influence would be a moot point.

I still would like an explanation for this.

For what? Rammstein being a key artist in helping foreign language bands break a barrier. Name a metal band that doesn't sing in English that is more popular than Rammstein.

1. Opeth - Blackwater Park
2. Tool - Lateralus

4. Converge - Jane Doe
5. Neurosis - A Sun that Never Sets
6. Pig Destroyer - Prowler in the Yard
7. My Dying Bride - The Dreadful Hours
8. Rammstein - Mutter
9. Windir - 1184
10. Ensiferum - Enisferum

2002:

2. Agalloch - The Mantle
3. Mastodon - Remission
4. Opeth - Deliverance
5. Immolation - Unholy Cult
6. Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane

Didn't know In Their Darkened Shrines was that acclaimed.

The Mantle should probably be #1 in retrospect. That album has pretty much (unfortunately) defined the last 10 years of metal.

I'd drop Nile down to 9 and replace Damage Done with Versus the World.
