Amazing composition. So sad that Petri Walli, the lead guitarist killed himself in 1995. A guitar playing talent that the world never got to see.

that was very nice... thanks for posting it... wonder what yngtchie's and others' opinions are...

This could be fun - my not thought out answers in bold - (I will refer a summary of our answers back to the source)

1). So much freakin' talent on the instrument they'd have become a guitar hero doing an instrumental of Kumbaya. Jimi

2). Enough talent to become a guitar hero when grouped with equally talented band mates. George Harrison

3). One lucky sum' bitch who scored a position in a band with a mega great vocalist, a killer drummer / bassist / keyboardist, superb material or the whole kit & kaboodle. Kirk Hammett

4). During their time period competition was extremely lite or non existent. Dimebag

5). Only attained guitar hero status because of heavy promotion and deep pockets. Sinister Gates

6). For the life of me I just can't figure it out. Jack White

1. Hendrix
2. Page
3. Petrucci
4. Berry
5. Mayer
6. Wylde

Don't really get the Petrucci one. He was one of the standout members of that band when they first made it big, wrote many of their songs and just contributed a lot in general. The guitar parts on Images & Words are just stellar, even if you don't include the guitar solos.

pretty sure boo was being facetious with the petrucci pick...

wylde frustrates me too, not only because he is overrated but because he is actually an immensely talented guy who is best known for his wankiest/worst playing, unfortunately...

this doesn't attest to his virtuoso abilities, but his overall musical talent and taste...

in fact, this whole album is excellent... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4t-6seugXNc

Actually I wasn't, I consider him the least talented member of the band (instrumentally) besides Labrie. If they were an instrumental group and did away with Petrucci's tasteless/mechnical/generic/fat cunt style of playing they could potentially be a half quasi-decent band. But that might just be wishful thinking.

It's pretty much impossible for me to like anything Wylde does that isn't Ozzy related. He is plain and simply my idea of the definitive douchebag guitar player.

At least John Mayer only has a racist dick, as opposed to being a racist dick.

The problem with Wylde is that he believes his own hype.

Just a few notes of any of his solos is enough to overwhelm me in it's douchebaggery.

Listening now, very lovely tune. Old-school sound, in a good way. Is that a soprano sax I hear? Beautiful sound.

That's why I think his solo on No More Tears is probably his best. No wah, no pinch harmonics, just a fuckin' awesome solo.

Actually I think calling Petrucci the worst musician in DT is somewhat unfair, everything about DT is athestically ugly to me, and not in a good way, but all the instrumentalists are insanely talented at what they do, as much as I hate to admit it.

And to say he's unlucky is probably unfair too because he mastered a style that appeals to douchebags with no taste, so he was probably destined to be an overrated excuse for a guitar hero no matter what.

So for my lucky category, replace him with Wylde. Nobody would give a shit about that guy if it weren't for Ozzy.

EDIT: Anyone who says the same applies to Randy Rhoads get's punched in the dick.
