i actually never really paid much attention to the Foo Fighters until a couple months ago tbh. i still doubt i will ever listen to a full album of theirs. but i threw their greatest hits on my mp3 player and it was a solid experience.

I'm over 17, love Nirvana and have no personality and I am deeply offended.

Wasting Light is one of their best albums, I don't know why everyone is saying they've gotten repetitive "as of late". Now if you guys would have said that in 2007-8 I would have agreed with you. Foo Fighters have the same appeal to rock fans as the National do to indie fans - they both make everyman, no frills music sound great.

I liked Wasting Light but it really wasn't anything tremendous.

Songs for the Deaf is the best thing Grohl has ever done.

I'm pretty baffled by this statement. While I think for the most part the Foo Fighters are just a singles band (except The Colour and Shape, fuck that's a fantastic pop album) and about average, I don't see how they could be "confused with countless generic alt rock bands." In fact I think the complete contrary and that within the pretty bland and uninteresting genre of radio alt rock, I think their style is pretty distinctive. What countless generic bands in particular do you get them mixed up with? While I've heard Creed get mixed up with everything from Pearl Jam to Live to Nickleback, to Default, I've never heard someone listen to The Best of You and go, "Whoa, I love that Hinder song!" David Grohl has a knack for writing great singles, his songs are not just a catchy chorus repeated ad-nauseam over crunchy loud generic power chords that have no melody. He writes truly. well crafted pop songs that have an interesting and catchy verse as well as chorus, and an interesting rhythm and riff to top it off. That is all ignoring the fact that he has one of the most iconic and unique voices in all of alternative rock. I can't say I've ever heard a singer come close to replicating his style.

Slaughterhouse came out less than a year ago and is already up there with what QOTSA have done. Not saying Ty Segall is hard rock, but I think saying that QOTSA is the last of the great heavy rock bands is kind of silly.

I don't like FF's new stuff at all, but their 90s stuff was good.

But even at their worst, you're deaf if you can't tell them apart from Hinder.

I mean most bands even if they're not original, they consist of human beings with their own idiosyncracie, so they still have their own sound to some extent, few bands sound exactly like another band, though there are exceptions, Theory of a Deadman is Nickelback.

I agree with that sentiment in that case. Although Songs for the Deaf is admittedly the only QOTSA album that I enjoy (but it's one of my favorite albums ever, top 50 probably).

And fuck no, Wolfmother is everything wrong with music. Rehashing 70s blues rock in an attempt to turn time and regress music back to an era that has since been evolved from. They're fucking terrible.
