Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is flat-out one of the most entertaining and visually creative video games I have ever played. It's now on sale for fifteen bucks on XBox Live. Snap that baby up.

Taking my PS2 back down to Pompey with me tomorrow and decided I'm going on a real survival horror kick from now. PS2 was incredible for survival horror.

That it was. There aren't enough Survival Horror games being released on this generation of consoles. I blame the success of RE4.

Yeah. I agree. Post-RE4, survival horror has turned into too much of a shooter genre and less about the story and atmosphere and it's been to the detriment of the genre. No enemy is scary if you can just pump it full of lead and kill it within 2 seconds. I mean I liked Dead Space 1 & 2, but when you think just how awesome survival horror was last gen it's been an incredible fall from grace.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent got it right big time though, hopefully the success of that will steer survival horror back in the right direction next gen. Cannot wait for Amnesia 2, should be out within the next couple of months within any luck.

I still need to get a copy of Amnesia. It seems right up my alley.

I think it's going cheap in the Steam sale atm if you don't mind digital copies.

It's an incredible game!

I love that site. I discovered several titles I'd never even heard of. His history of the genre is well researched and written, too. His essay comparing on Japanese horror, at least those parts contrasting it with the "Western" take on the genre, is pretty off the mark though.

I'm a Spider-Man fan from way back, so I'm biased, but, man, Shattered Dimensions is such a thrill ride! Highly recommended.

Back to the Future: The Game

From Telltale Games.

I downloaded it on PS3.

They use their usual episodic adventure game formula, treating it as the fourth movie. It's pretty wonderful.

Started up Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Had a hard time believing a video game could be as scary as some people have said it is, but yeah... it's pretty darn nerve-wracking.

It really is amazing. Just wait until you get to the choir...

Horror games have potential to be much scarier than horror stories or horror films for me, because you're more involved and in the best horror games you are often left with little ammo and can do nothing but run.

I really need to give the Project Zero games a go seeing as they, and Project Zero II in particular, have a reputation about equal to Amnesia when it comes to the scariness stakes.

edit: Oh and the people who made Amnesia also made a trilogy of games called Penumbra, which are supposed to be really good and I really want to play also.

Just finished the special edition of The Secret of Monkey Island on PS3. Good times.
