Vedder, Jackson and Wonder.

Wonder for sure, but I believe Jackson mimed a lot of his vocals live (not in his Jackson 5 days of course).

Also, should we change the criteria? Seems like "difficulty of material" shouldn't count because it would be relative to each singer.

What about pitch, improv, consistency, ability to improve upon studio performances, and reputation?

Only in his HIStory Tour 96-97, and 30% in Dangerous Tour 92-93. Otherwise, he always sang live and very well.

Anyone in favor of redoing this with my new proposed criteria?

Pitch, improv, consistency, ability to improve upon studio performances, and reputation?

Seriously though, I wish MintCondition still posted in here because he knew more about Farnham than anyone else.
Like I said John is among the very elite when it comes to consistency. He and Perry should never change as the top 2, imo.

I'm thinking this would be the ideal top 5...

1. Perry
2. Farnham
3. J. Wilson
4. Dio
5. Aretha

Because she was way more consistent and had much better pitch?

Jack himself even admitted that Daltrey was often very hit-or-miss live, and that he only had "periods" of greatness throughout his career, whereas other singers were great live through their WHOLE careers.

Daltrey is not top 5.

I'm not sure. Top 10 is still a pretty prestigious position, and there TONS UPON TONS of great rock vocalists that could be worthy candidates.

The positions of 6-10 are still super good! There's no shame in moving someone from top 5 to top 10! We're talking about the best of the best here!

Exactly, having Daltrey in the top 10 live rock vocalists of ALL TIME is hardly an injustice.
Though to be honest, I'm really not entirely convinced that he's even top 10.

I think you may be confusing his greatness as a frontman with his greatness as a live singer.

True but many times musical critics and fans tend to combine the two things.

So where do you guys see Mercury ending up? I know he was inconsistent, but when he was on, he was REALLY on!

Well he had his bad night but I'd not consider him inconsistent.
