no, but maybe I wasn't busy paying attention to every music magazine/website/network during that time frame. I didn't know the Strokes were that hyped.

They were pretty much the most hyped band in the world for 3 years.

I was there, trust me on this.

The Second Amendment ought to be repealed. Prohibition didn't work. We repealed it. Unrestricted access to any kind of weapon doesn't work any more, and we should repeal it too.

Oh, is this supposed to be about music? Oopsy!

Ringo Starr was the most talented member of the Beatles.

Uh ok, so let me get this straight, prohibition didn't work so....... let's prohibit guns?

I'm a gun control advocate myself but this is a pretty weaksauce argument.

If you want, you can make a version of this thread for the politics section.

I think she was using prohibition as an example.

Yes she mentioned how prohibition didn't work and then immediately called for prohibition.

Now that that the 2000's are over, it is difficult to see how either The Strokes or Arcade Fire were the messiahs they have been proclaimed as.

Looking back, Funeral is still one of the best albums recorded. Looking back I still find Is This It a horrendously overrated album that did nothing new and it still boggles my mind that people liked it as much as they did. I still can't see it as anything more than a few fun catchy singles, but nothing Earth-shattering like it was made out to be.

You Only Live Once is by far the Strokes' best song.

That's a good line, but unfortunately, no, that is *not* what I said. I said there is precedent for repealing an amendment that clearly is no longer helpful or workable. I did *not* say we should "prohibit guns." That would be just as unworkable as prohibiting, oh, I don't know.....marijuana?

There is precedent for *restricting access* to alcohol, tobacco, automobiles, pornography, and other dangerous or potentially dangerous items. (I'll leave restricted access to birth control and abortion out of this discussion, but I'm sure you can expand upon the above list.)

The Second Amendment must have made perfect sense at the end of the 18th century, but that was then. This is now. They didn't have to worry about whack jobs busting into a school and mowing down first-graders. We do. First things first.

Incidentally, I just found out that it's *really difficult* for me to state my unpopular opinions as facts, without using "JMO" or "I think" or "I believe." Don't know whether this is a "girl thing" or not.

BTW I was just kidding about Ringo, but it is a fact that his contributions to the Beatles were underrated. He had perfect rhythm and was a great drummer. (Maybe he still is--haven't heard him play lately.)
