Talking about Monterey reminded me of this:

Sampson wrote:
No, that's in retrospect. The actual audience at the Monterey Pop Festival were aghast at them smashing instruments. That was a peace, love and flowers crowd, the love crowd as Otis Redding put it. They basically assaulted the crowd and the faces of the audience look as though they had just been raped or something. People who were there said the Who went over as poor as anybody but Nyro.

Sampson's just wrong.

Listen to that crowd at the end.

Neither did The Who. It's silly how often you want to have a Who vs. Zep debate. Make a separate thread.

1. You are a fool. The Who originated more than any other band apart from The Beatles.

2. I was talking about The Creation vs. Led Zeppelin

Clash, congrats, you've derailed this thread into a mindless Zep vs. The Who debate.

Now, dig up a quotation where I claim that Zeppelin is a greater live band than The Who.

He's not saying that.

Pretty sure I responded to your "Dazed and Confused" vid, posted for who knows what reason, with a Creation vid. The Creation. Not The Who. The Creation.

That was me. I posted it to show how Zeppelin's on stage act was definitely not original.

You can keep bullshit ideas like that to yourself. Or you can always make a separate thread.

Two quick points:

I think Clash pretty much nailed the Who vs. Springsteen comparison. I agree with everything he said.

I do think that the consistency criterion HAS to at least somewhat take length of time into account. Let's posit two bands. After ten years, both have been performing at their peak level. One band retires. The other band stays at that peak level for another ten years, and then starts to deteriorate. If the second band doesn't win that category, then it's a bad criterion in my opinion.

Wow this thread is really moving along!

Anyway, put me down for Queen > Zeppelin. I dont think anyone in their right mind would argue that Queen were far more consistent than Zeppelin. They probably take reputation as well, I mean Live-Aid and Wembley are just....well I shouldn't have to explain it.
Neither does that well in influence or impact of live performances on the artist's career. But I stand firm in Queen taking those first two criteria.
Their win in consistency is so huge that should put them over Zep, imo.
