WGA selects the 101 best-written TV shows of all time.

You can quibble with the order (Louie 98th? Deadwood not in the top 10? The Wire not 1st?) but as purely a collection of shows it's as solid a list as you're likely to find.

I guess I'll begrudgingly accept Sopranos over Seinfeld but there's a lot more ranking way off & a disturbing lack of Dave Chapelle.

Watching Ali G interviews on youtube, and I'm convinced Cohen's a comedic genius. The way he elicits peoples' underlying views by playing stupid is just hilariously brilliant. Seems like the best interviews are always with American conservatives, who don't seem to pick up irony at all.

how does he get them to agree to do interviews?

When these 1st came out in the UK, they were done before anyone knew who SBC was. He recorded almost all of these interviews before the 1st one was broadcast, so as to keep the whole thing secret. I think they were shown in pretty much 1 or 2 series of shows. IIRC, he was sold as being a presenter of a new 'young peoples' political/cultural TV show. This sucked in these figures who thought that they would be getting good publicity with a potential new audience.

that's fucking hilarious.

Yeah, I just started watching Da Ali G show (all the episodes are on YouTube) and it's fucking brilliant. I don't know why so few people talk about it.

It sucks that the UK version has that terrible laugh track.

Its a very American-centric list. I have problems with Sopranos being number, and a lot of the older sitcoms just don't hold up. I don't want to sound mean, but Mary Tyler Moore just doesn't compare in depth and volume with The Wire, or Deadwood, or Six Feet Under.

That show was ahead of its time. I love watching the reruns.

I'm surprised Lost made it that high. It started off great, then as time progressed it became clear the writers has no idea what they were doing.

It's in the animation subsection. Also, you do know there's a search function on this forum?
