Vertigo is definitely a very influential film and admirably constructed and upon close examination offers up a lot of interesting themes that aren't right there on the surface. But after being forced to see it and read about it multiple times for school (not to mention watching it on my own numerous times trying to figure out what was so great about it) I have to say that it is a film that I simply do not enjoy nearly as much as would match its reputation. I love the scene with the green dress in the red restaurant: holy shit is all I have to say about that shot--just wow. Also the Saul Bass opening titles are amazing, as is the score. But I doubt it would make my personal top 20 films of the 50s. Though of course I famously do not like Hitchcock much at all so...

i'm okay with ben affleck as batman. i think the haters are die hard batman fans who don't watch many movies or other people who don't watch many movies and remember affleck as embarrassing himself ten years ago, unaware that he's made a big hollywood comeback. i can't imagine why someone who watches a lot of movies and likes film in general foremost - rather than batman foremost - and who can enjoy a good batman movie as much as pulp fiction or something more 'respectable', would really give a shit or have a problem with ben affleck as batman. i think he's a pretty good actor at a minimum. he's obviously redeemed and reinvented himself from the gigli and daredevil days. i don't get the hate. i like that the filmmakers wanted a little bit older actor (affleck is 41) to play a more seasoned, veteran superhero. i think he looks the part and for some reason his character and performance in argo make me think he can pull it off just fine.

I was initially shocked but now I've come around to the idea and am looking forward to see how he does. Apparently he's also helping write the script, so that gives me even more faith in the project.
