Texas won't hire Petrino. It is going to be funny when Sumlin jumps to the NFL next year leaving A&M to rebuild again

No let him stay at A&M for at least 2-3 more recruiting classes.

It's too late to fix the defense, so I wouldn't worry that firing Diaz will buy Mack Brown another year. It's just nice catharsis. The defense will still be a sieve, and ya'll will go 4-5 in conference.

Oh my God it's Bama week. I don't have high hopes for us, but the atmosphere is surely going to be insane, especially if it stays a close game. If we win I think Manziel will require a Popemobile to get anywhere ever and I hope no crazy Bama fans kill Reveille.

This statement is stupendously wrong, especially on the second one.

Thanks for the Blue and Maize take. But nope everyone in the bar we were at who wasn't a Michigan partisan (there were no ND fans and a bunch of USC and Stanford fans who aren't exactly biased towards ND) thought neither was a good call and my Michigan coworker admitted so as well.

And here's a Notre Dame blog where they say they're valid in the comments:

http://www.onefootdown.com/2013/9/7/469 ... d#comments

The only one that is controversial if you look at both slowly is the first one, and even there it's technically illegal in the rulebook but is rarely enforced. I would understand not throwing the flag on that one. For the second one the Notre Dame defender had a fist full of jersey and pulled Funchess down when he tried to jump for the ball.

fix? no. improve? yes.

it's just hard to envision texas going 4-5 in conference when every half-decent team in the conference lost a lot of important players except for TCU and OSU to an extent, while texas returns 19 starters from a 9-4 team. two teams they lost two last year were in really close games. one lost their whole offense and the other (TCU) just doesn't impress me for some reason. and nearly every team in the conference will be much worse on offense except for baylor and OSU. but baylor still won't be as good as last year. the texas defense can't be worse than last week. with a new, most likely better coach it will improve but not be good by any stretch of the imagination. but as long as it's not awful they'll do better than 4-5 in conference. it's just logic, my friend.

nah, they won't make a bowl.

Robinson is unlikely to do much. He was terrible in his last stop at Michigan.

This is true and lots of Michigan fans are cackling over it, but Rich Rod did force him to run the 3-3-5, a defense he really knew nothing about.

That being said Greg Robinson was certifiably awful.

Comment thread on EDSBS:

Quote:
"In five of their last six games, Georgia has allowed over 200 yards rushing on the ground. " Well, sure, but they’re doing a pretty good job of limiting the rushing yards through the air.

Quote:
Yeah, UGA is currently tied for first in the nation in air-rushing defense.

Quote:
Well, that puts them ahead of Texas. The defense can’t even stop air from racking up rushing yards.

all deserved

550 yards is a third of a mile. I had never heard if that happening in a game before.

An interesting take on this OSU thing from someone who previously worked in PR at Sports Illustrated: http://www.lostlettermen.com/the-ok-sta ... fers-take/

I can categorically say that the person who bought this is one of the biggest losers in the world

Not as much as the UAE guy that bought "1", though.

Well, good game. Really impressed that A&M managed to bring it back to one touchdown. It came out as Alabama winning the turnover battle and I thought they were going to clown us. Oh well, A&M will probably get a defense. After Manziel graduates. The only other game I really want to see tonight is on the fucking longhorn network god damn it.

stream it

the texas D looks much better against a better offense. i think people were seriously understating the negative impact diaz's coaching was having on their defense and stymying potential.

nvm

prediction: 3 - 9. we're coming for you kansas and iowa state! at the very least they could make the games entertaining. mack brown will likely earn more than $1 million per win this year. that's got to be a record.

at least mack brown is gone. the game of football has passed him by. it's also not a coincidence that his best 6 year run spanned vince young and colt mccoy's graduation: rose bowl v michigan win through national championship loss v bama. it's pretty clear he can't win consistently without a world-beater quarterback and if it wasn't for getting so lucky with colt mccoy who was only recruited as a backup to ryan perilleiux he probably would've been fired years ago. you take away a world-beater mobile QB and texas can expect 9 wins tops. it's insanely frustrating that texas could have had RG3, manziel, jameis winston, and maybe andrew luck.
