I did wonder if they look at his excellent record and county cricket and are still dismissing that competition as shit, which is probably a little outdated. But then again his record in Shield cricket is also excellent isn't it, so that doesn't explain it away. As far as North & D Hussey went in county cricket, no comparison. D Hussey is an absolute run machine for Nottinghamshire, whereas North's had a couple of counties in more short term stints and never pulled up trees really. D Hussey is what, 32? You'd get another 4 top years out of him I'd say, about 40 odd tests. If you're bringing in a few youngsters I'd bring in someone medium term like him to bridge the gap.

He's 33 and he didn't just turn 33 either. I think his time has probably passed. They need to blood younger players like Khawaja and let them develop in test cricket.

North's batting record isn't as good as Hussey's but his bowling record is better, which is maybe why they picked him. Pretty dumb decision though. Hussey's off spin is handy enough and batting is surely the key factor when picking your 6. They really should have picked him ahead of North.

JOHNSON!!! Bout time son, where has this form been the last two years!? C'mon run through them now!

Mark Nicholas is well known to us here, you're right he's absolutely diabolical. He's the sort that would get animated about the morning papers arriving.

Nicholas is not just our English commentator for the summer. He's been the leader of the channel 9 commentary team for at least 3 years now I think. They brought him in to ease Richie Benaud off being the lead presenter (none of the other members of the 9 commentary team could do it to be fair...they need to head hunt Brendan Julian from fox)...the transition has now been made in full. Smashing baby.

Shame you don't get David Gower, he's much much better than Mark Nicholas.

the whole sky team is pretty good. bothams fairly ordinary from memory though. lloyd, atherton, hussain, holding and gower are decent listening.

4 down now. interesting to see how bell fares under the pump. lots of talk about his new mental fortitude but he hasnt really been tested this series.

A test championship can't come soon enough really. I'd really love to see a knockout/playoff type situation between say the top 4 ranked sides every 2 years or so. They announced something recently didn't they? I can't remember exactly how it was going to work or if it had the go ahead. What would they do in the case of a draw in that situation? Maybe a 10 over shoot out (i.e. 10 overs a side)?
timeless test for the championshiop, or maybe just 6 days. no chance of a draw with the tempermant of batsmen these days (except weather)

can't decide which i like better the skysports tv commentary...which seems just like american sports commentary, or the waffling bbc radio 5 commentary and its forays into broad's marital prospects.

is that a normal strategy, belt him in the shoulder and then make him think you'll belt him again?

Well! I enjoyed the cricket today...not sure how I feel about all those short balls. peetwopeedotcom rulz.

Good to see that the Australian lower order has more fight than England's!

Johnson! What a great bowler when he's swinging the ball in late like that.
