I haven't played guitar in over a year, but when I did I was running: Squier Tele Custom II > Boss OS-2 > EH Little Big Muff > Boss DD-3 > Digitech Digidelay > TC Electronic Trinity Reverb > Moen Holy Choir Chorus > Fender Volume-Tone > Laney TF800.

Last year I was working awkward shifts that left me constantly knackered. This year my business has really taken off so I haven't had the time, and when I do my hands are too fucked to consider picking one up. I'm going to take some time off later in the year to record a new EP with my band. That won't be for a good few months at my current workload. This past couple of weeks I've done several garden maintenance jobs, a couple of garden clearances, fitted guttering to a large detached house not to mention the hours of quoting and paperwork. I was going to have this Sunday off, but a client got back to us after declining a painting and decorating job, so now I'm doing that from Sunday to the middle of next week, on top of another garden clearance, a large hedge trimming job and a bunch of maintenance contracts. I'm trying to get as much work done as possible over the summer, as there's much less work available during late Autumn and Winter, so hopefully I'll have a couple of solid months where I can concentrate on little else other than music, as well as give me time to brush the cobwebs off my playing hands.

4444 is a good number you should probably stop posting on there.

I guitar a Ruokangas V.S.O.P. King as my main axe. It has three Häussel P90-ish singlecoil pickups, which gives it a fatter sound than regular Stratocaster-style guitars. It has a push-pull configuration which enables me to get a Telecaster-ish sound by combining the neck and bridge pickups. The trem is by Wilkinson, I mostly leave it alone. It's stringed with regular .010 strings, the brand varies.

Image

My second favourite electric is the Tradition MTQ, a Korean guitar modelled after the Hamer Studio. I'm doing a lot of work on it at the moment, where I've replaced the pickups with Duncan Custom Custom in the bridge, and a Pearly Gates in the neck, and also replacing the hardware. The difference from the factory POS pickups is remarkable, it's as if a thick blanket has been lifted off the guitar, these pickups have finally unleashed the mahogany monster that the MTQ really is. It looked like this before I did any alterations:

Image

My office guitar (yes, I have an office guitar) is this Fender Thinline Telecaster from 1967. Only the knobs are original, so I dunno if that's enough to call it a Fender, but whatever. It's got a cracked body, the strings rattle when I play, and the whole thing hums like a power plant when I plug it in. Doesn't mean I don't love it, and I know I never wanna part with it. Well, at least not until the body falls apart.

The guitar I've had the longest is this one my dad gave me, a Yamaha. He bought it back in the early '70s, and I've had it since around 1999. It sounds sweet, and after I shaved down the bridge a tad, plays like a dream. I used to have a steel-string Martin acoustic, but I could never get used to the feel of steel strings. I play mostly with my fingers, and rarely strum, so the soft sound and feel of the Yamaha is perfect for me.

I also have an Ibanez RG3120, but it sorely needs a real setup, which I can't give. Strings feel too tight, the whammy arm is loose, stuff like that. It sounds heavenly, and looks damn good, but what good is that if the action doesn't feel right? I installed a Tremol-No system on it, but if I figure that I wanna sell it, I'll take it off and put it on the Ruokangas first. It looks like this:

EDIT: Since posting this, I've sold the RG. Not having any plans of replacing it with another guitar, but we'll see what the future might bring.

I guitar'd some Yamaha today at work. The audio isn't the best, neither is the playing, but it remains my most precious of instruments.

And here's my new amp!

Image

It's a 50th anniversary Marshall JTM 1, a full watt of smooth, creamy Marshall goodness. It's also got a switch on the back that turns it down to a tenth of a watt, which enables you to crank it without bothering anyone in the apartment. First impression is just great, it's so full-sounding and responsive, I'm just so happy I finally got a real low-wattage non-master volume amp.

What it sounds like, as recorded with the camera microphone, not the sE X1 condenser mic pictured: https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?v=602783479842618

It is, I was surprised by how different my playing sounded through it. Looking forward to recording with it, preferably over some backing tracks. Haven't cranked it yet, but I'm gonna try that one of these days. The clean tone is just top notch, way better than I had expected.

Now I'm wondering what this would sound like through the Marshall...
