I don't think that ELP has one song that stands out as being their greatest song and needs to be on a list like this. They don't have ANY songs that are listed on acclaimedmusic at all. Nothing in the top 3,000 and nothing listed as bubbling under the top 3,000.

The most acclaimed Genesis song is "The Lam Lies Down At Broadway" at #2193 of all time.

For Yes they have "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" at #2569. "Roundabout" is bubbling under the top 3.000.

So for the acclaim portion of the criteria none of the songs by these three bands even comes close to being top 500 of all time. None of them has a song that does especially well in popularity or lasting popularoty, except for "Roundabout" which is already on our list.

None of the three bands in question have any songs on the RS Top 500 or on the R&R HOF 500, other than "Roundabout" which is here already.

By our criteria, Genesis and ELP don't come close to deserving a song on this list. ELP's music was popular for 2-3 years and then just died.

Lucky Man by ELP from 1970 might squeeze in "if" you consider the song contains one of rock music's earliest uses of a Moog synth solo in a charting tune and whether that has any significant importance .... Take care

this version on youtube has around 1 million views ..

wow when/how did I Heart it Through the Grapevine get to number 5? And Louie Louie number 4? I'd have those in top 20, but not top 5

EDIT: Okay nevermind even with the exception of those two there are a ton of placements on this list that make no sense to me so don't really care about bringing them all up. I always found greatest songs to be the most subjective list anyway

New entry on the list.

497. Closer - Nine Inch Nails

The current #450 (Jim Dandy - LaVern Baker) drops off and everything moves up one slot.

Lew should have it on the main page tomorrow.

What's more influential about "Back in Black"? And I would think "You Shook Me" is the more popular song.

It's unfair that this list is dominated by early Rock influences. The highest ranked song from 1990 onwards is Smells Like Teen Spirit at 35. The highest ranked Radiohead song is Creep at 184. Kanye's highest song is 300? I don't even like Kanye all that much, but he's been the biggest Hip Hop artist in the world since 2004.

Also, no King Crimson? 21st Century Schizoid Man? Just, you know, the first prog song ever. What about Can and the Krautrock groups? What about Punk and Noise Rock? Sonic Youth? The Pixies? The Velvet Underground?

This list is so biased, it's crazy. It's like it was written by somebody who's obsessed with 50's and 60's music.

That is in the top 20 now.

These songs have to prove themselves over decades to be high on this list. I just heard "Blue Suede Shoes" by Carl Perkins on the radio while I was in my car a few minutes ago. That record is now 68 years old. We'll see if anybody is still playing Radiohead records in 2065.

Nebfotac, greatest song lists are always gonna have their own biases and would vary greatly depending on what editor puts his emphasis on, be it popularity, critical acclaim or maybe influence. What could be reasonably considered top 100 song in one's opinion, wouldn't make another man top 500, and I am not necessary saying that either is wrong. But, as usual, you simply want to ignore popularity in favour of your elitist opinions. Why am I not surprised? There is a tons of songs which matters a lot to me and which I would consider a great song in my interpretation but I am not asking them to be on list because it wouldn't be justified by list's criteria and editors' approach.

What radio station were you listening to? I haven't heard Blue Suede Shoes all the way through in maybe 3 years.

The Velvet Underground and "21st Century Schizoid Man" are from the '60s.
