*congratulates himself for not even contemplating putting a bet on England to win the world cup regardless of the odds*

Who should I root for? I think I can get into cricket if I have someone to care about.

Go for Pakistan or Sri Lanka. Or New Zealand.

If you can catch any of the Pakistan v India game tomorrow, maybe the highlights, you'll be in for a good spectacle I reckon.

Oh, you have to tell me why to cheer for them. I need reasons.

I wouldn't inflict supporting England on you.
Australia are the New York Yankees of cricket.
South Africa - meh.

Pakistan are unpredictable, their fans are passionate, they can't play at home at the moment because of the political situation there. Who doesn't love a team that have the odds stacked against them but still can mix it with the best? They traditionally have wild fast bowlers and wild, attacking batsmen.
Sri Lanka are a loveable team from a tiny country who somehow manage to consistently produce a handful of top class players who carry the rest of their rag tag side. Much greater than the sum of their parts.
New Zealand are hip. They are from Australasia but aren't Australia. Cool, kooky cricketers.

India -eh. I've tried to support India as a second team as I have family from there. They just aren't as exciting as Pakistan and they now have a stranglehold on the financial aspect of the game.
West Indies - incredibly cool but just a lost cause now. A fallen giant.
Bangladesh - perennial losers. Plenty of potential with their population but no real infrastructure. Don't bother with them.

Yeah, Nick is spot on for the 3 to support although I'd personally put them in reverse order right now. I think it's a great time to support New Zealand. They're quite a likeable team (and as Nick pointed out, they aren't Australia) and they're also in somewhat of a golden era (for them). With guys like McCullum who is scoring big runs for fun, Williamson who is one of the best young prospects in world cricket, and some of the most exciting new ball bowlers in Southee and Boult. They're historically a pretty average side so it wouldn't be bandwagoning and they're a pretty good chance of winning the world cup in familiar conditions.

I'd personally be weary of supporting Pakistan right now.

I don't think I'm capable of rooting for England in anything, sorry.

Fuck that.

I think it's on now. I can't find a stream, but I think I'll be able to watch the replay tomorrow through ESPN.

I would say my most natural team would be Ireland, though it's obviously a stretch. How much would I be torturing myself by picking them? Likewise, I like that the West Indies are from the Western Hemisphere (I have strange reasons for rooting for teams). Or should I just root for Pakistan in this tournament only because of their circumstances?

More like India are the Yankees of cricket. Australia are more like the Cardinals. Australia is 5x the size of NZ, and only 1/3 the size of UK, and yet has surprising impact on the sport.

Geoffrey Boycott criticises 'pathetic' England ... has he said anything about having an Irish captain yet?

Don't care about the world cup except for the Ind vs Pak match. s/o to the stadium for playing Bollywood in between overs

I hope India destroys every team but I'm def not watching again unless they're in the finals
