The first of many about whom it will be said...they could have put him in the Hall Of Fame when he was still alive, but, no, they had to get the Paul Butterfield Blues Band in instead.

Hate to be the dick here but PBBB are way more deserving of being in the HOF than Joe Cocker.

How so? He had way more commercial success, and more influence as well. What does the PBBB have going for it at all?

More commercial success sure, more influence? Doubt it, PBBB were basically the first blues rock band, that's hardly insignificant, they were groundbreakers, Joe Cocker was a great singer but I wouldn't call what he did groundbreaking.

Not remotely true. The likes of The Yardbirds and John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers were doing it before them. Maybe you could say they were the first white American blues rock band.

Still, what band was so strongly influenced by them? Who wouldn't sound the way they do if not for the PBBB. Does anyone even cover their songs?

They all released their debut albums in 65, and yeah JMB and YB formed earlier and they probably are more influential, but PBBB were still heavily involved in the birth of blues rock and to say they lack influence is just stupid.

But rock was born out of blues so it's not like blues rock is all that revolutionary. If anything artists which drove rock and roll away from blues are probably more revolutionary. Plus Lonnie Mack beats Paul Butterfield Blues Band by couple of years when it comes to blues rock.

To those who didn't read it in the Electronic Music thread: Edgard Froese of Tangerine Dream died last week. This marks the end of one of the most influential and longest-running acts in the genre's history.

Don Covay, one of the truly underappreciated legends of R&B, passed away earlier this week.

R.I.P.

I always loved "I Won't Hold You Back" -- "Africa", "Rosanna", and "Hold the Line" to a lesser extent. All great tunes, though.

R.I.P a mighty fine bassist and songwriter. Below is evidence of both those skills, particularly the former.
