Why here? Because the video game forum is dead as fuck that's why.

Samples of some of my favorite composers.

Tim Follin

Koji Kondo

Boo, my queen

I'm sure everybody's sick of this one, but I can't deny the best VGM of all time

Dammit this better not turn into another JRPG wankfest.

To be frank I find the Final Fantasy soundtracks overrated, I can only listen to so many slow moving pseudo-classical pieces made entirely out of digital samples, I prefer the music of more action oriented games which have more actual hooks in their compositions, I like video game music best when it actually sounds like video game music.

The best soundtrack out of the Super Nintendo JRPGs is Earthbound no contest, and it sounds nothing at all like a conventional JRPG soundtrack.

holy shit, that "Plok" song is insane. Rustie could release that unaltered and get a billion soundcloud listens.

those Donkey Kong games always had great music too. cool thread, giving the composers some shine. i couldn't name a VGM composer other than Koji Kondo

this is my alltime favorite VGM song. i actually listen to it all the time:

so funky

Tim Follin (and his brother Geoff, whom he callaborated with on Plok, Silver Surfer and other soundtracks) has a reputation of pushing sound chips to their limit, Miyamoto himself has been quoted as saying he was impressed with Plok's soundtrack and that it did things with the SNES sound chip he didn't even know were possible.

The whole soundtrack is awesome too, a killer mix of psychedelic pop and prog rock with a touch of electronica here and there, and the game ain't half bad either.

Nothing brings me back to the early-mid 90s quite like a funky Sega Genesis jam.

^ Holy shit this game actually came out in 1989

Two songs, oh my, I certainly hope this doesn't lead to page-freezing floodposting.

Yeah I realized that, but since I changed that Earthbound one it's a little better now, I'll remember not to embed as many videos in a single post.

As far as old video game soundtracks go, the Sonic the Hedgehog series had some of my favorite music that I still listen to on occasion. But shout out to a couple of more obscure games:
