Manchester City and Arsenal have a very similar problem at the moment: tactical inflexibility. What the hell was Pellegrini thinking playing 4-4-2 against a high pressing team...again. Why, after switching things up and seeing relative success, does Arsene retreat to playing the stereotypical walk the ball into the net tactics against teams that can clearly soak up pressure and counter rapidly. Madness. With that said, I was frankly baffled as to why people thought Monaco was such a good draw for Arsenal. Had Chelsea drawn Monaco I wouldn't have been nearly as blase about it, given Monaco's brilliant defensive record.

Liverpool just beat Man City in excellent fashion as well. Doesn't mean we are finishing in 2nd. And considering our form as of late, I don't see how we have any less of a chance than Arsenal or United.

Well you're 3 and 2 points behind respectively, so there's that.

In my experience that's exactly when your team is likely to lose points. "It's only Burnley lads, we've got this." Then two missed penalty calls and two dangerous challenges later, you're down to ten men and they equalise in the closing minutes. Liverpool, like most of the clubs at the top, seem to have this misplaced confidence against "lesser" teams. I watched both the Beskitas and Man City games, and Liverpool's performance in each were night and day. If Liverpool perform like they did against City, then yeah, their shouldn't be any problems closing the gap. If they play like they did against Beskitas, on the other hand, I could see them finishing 5th or lower.

Arsenal's first win away to a decent team in years.

So why is it all about Arsenal results? What about city results? Me posting the score isn't necessarily saying that I have strong confidence in Arsenal, but perhaps that city have results in them that could see them slip again.

Was at Spurs v Swansea tonight. Great second half. We're too defensively fragile to realistically finish in the top 4 though. Lloris is a pleasure to watch but I can't see him staying with us too much longer. Won another accumulator bet today to take my winnings to £400 since Sunday  My luck's changing!

Please do me a favour and bet on Celtic on Sunday then, we could do with the help after that performance last night !!

I worry a little for our co-efficient though.

Great pic! It's a shame the EPL teams aren't dominating in Europe these days... On the balance of quality I feel they are almost good for 6 CL places. But yet they don't win the Europa ever and the top 4 aren't exactly tearing it up either...

Maybe the quality isn't quite as good as you make out.

It is, but EPL teams seem to show up in Europe and half-arse it. Chelsea's exit yesterday wasn't for lack of intrinsic quality, they just looked like they couldn't be arsed, walking around like it was a day out in the park. It reminded me of Arsenal's performance against Monaco.

I think part of last night's loss is down to Mourinho's defensive style too. Why Chelsea weren't hammering at PSG, particularly when they were down to 10 men is beyond me. Alright we would have progressed with a goalless draw, but that's still a very fine margin to risk and it proved to be. PSG made the same mistake in this tie last year.
