As a side note if the Cowboys manage to finish tied for first in the NFC East no matter how many teams in the East they are tied with they win every tie breaking scenario. It's trivia of course because I'd be shocked if they win one remaining game but there you are

Edit:

"How can an NFL franchise waste a No. 1 draft pick on a guy with this many question marks? Last year all we heard was how Tim Tebow was not worth risking a first-round pick because of his throwing motion—not just the top pick, but anywhere in the top 32. Name another issue with Tebow. Character? Please. Intelligence? No. Accuracy? Not really. Yet somehow because he came from a spread system he was deemed unworthy of a top pick. Guess what system Cam came from.

So how is it we go from "Tebow sucks" to "Cam is awesome" in one year? When these two guys played on the same team for two years, Cam was the one riding the bench while Tebow was breaking records and winning championships. So how is it that the treatment of Cam by the "draft people" is 180 degrees different than Tebow's? I don't know.

Let's ask Denver Broncos fans if they would like to trade Tebow for Newton straight up. They would laugh in your face. Football fans know even if the experts have no clue. We can spot a fraud when we see one.

In five years, when Tebow is leading Denver into the playoffs and Cam Newton is riding someone's bench, remember this article."

Oh man this guy really did a great job. He started with just racial hints before going full out in the end. Masterful

Cam Newton is a sure-fire bust. I am so certain of this that if he is the Panthers' starting quarterback in 2016, I will buy a Cam Newton jersey and stand in the stadium parking lot in my underwear when the Panthers come to Tampa Bay and hold a sign proclaiming that Auburn rules over Florida and Carolina rules over Tampa Bay.

Oh please God somebody hold him to this.

To be fair, Cam has broken most of the "rules" in terms of projecting QB success. QBs with that little experience that come from that type of college offense who struggle with accuracy like he did almost never do well in the pros, and I don't know if anybody else with that combination has done as well as Cam has. Now that article was horribly argued, and had many stupid ass ideas with clearly racial undertones, but I don't think serious analysts should be ashamed if they guessed wrong on Cam.

538 has the odds for the Cowboys at 2%. For perspective, the Eagles had a 12% chance of beating the Patriots, which was the biggest upset of the year by percentage.

One minor bit of defense of something that seems like it might be a dogwhistle, but I'm not sure, is on Cam's intelligence. He's not really a smart guy. He's Yogi Berra-esque in terms of mangling the English language (e.g. hindsight is always 50/50). But football smarts and book smarts are not nearly the same thing. Friends I know who took class with Joe Flacco tell me he's dumb as a box of bricks if the topic isn't football.

And you know who else is dumb as a box of bricks? Tim Fucking Tebow

I guess so. He's definitely QB dumb. I can't comment if he's book dumb.

Well precisely on the QB dumb part of the equation which is all you can evaluate from what had been presented at the time. About the most charitable interpretation of the comments I can give is that they are assuming intelligence based of Tebow's clean image and outspoken faith (so they're religiosist) rather than racist but I wouldn't bet on it

Do you think there could be co-MVPs this year like Peyton/McNair in 2003? Brady was no doubt the best from the first half of the season, then once the Panthers' undefeated streak got real Cam started getting the widespread notice he deserves. Cam got a lot more support after the Patriots lost two in a row, but Tom is now looking back in form (as Amendola goes down again with a knee injury and Mariota's own is still bothering him).
As for Cam, he's supposedly polarizing because he's been so good this year (even with the cakewalk schedule) but is also a jerk (which I find hard to believe). Both have had huge injuries to some high-tier guys to deal with on both sides.
I have a feeling Cam will get it (he's all but confirming it now against the Giants), and Tom will be OPOTY.

I know it was posed earlier that "Gronk > Brady"; I can see it at this point. Gronk isn't getting any MVP attention though. Yes, the MVP is basically "best quarterback unless another guy is inhumanly better", but I could see Gronk possibly getting OPOTY.

I think Brady coming back to the pack will really hurt him. Had he had his first half performance in the second half I think he's a lock.

Don't discount a late charge by Russell Wilson though. The guy has been surface of the sun hot for the past 5 to 6 weeks and that's well the skill position talent collapses around him. Don't think co-MVP is likely and don't think doing it against the titans gets Brady there. If he shreds the Jets we might have something. It's going to take a lot to overcome Cam (particularly how well he's playing late and that in common games: Dallas, Washington, Giants, Eagles, Colts, Titans, Texans, and Jags he's had the better collective performance (that's an unusually large number of common games for two QBs and it will matter)

Damn. Really thought that was gonna be another classic "Giants the giant slayers" game. Good stuff by Cam today for sure.

Tebow gets singled out for his religion (largely by fans of him, who praise him), while other athletes do not. I think that has to be a race thing.

Cam Newton: It’s just a God thing. I thank God every single day. I’m just His instrument and He’s using me on a consistent basis daily. [God is] using me to extend His word and I’m a prime example of how God could turn something that was bad into something that was very great… If God is with me who can be against me.

He ended an Instagram post with #THANKyouJESUSforALLOWINGmeTOseeANOTHERday (after a car crash that he survived).

Keep forgetting that Peanut Tillman is on the Panthers. Would be really nice to see him win a Super Bowl

That's the main reason I'm rooting for the Panthers. It'd be nice to see Jared Allen win one too.

I feel like Tillman could have been borderline all of fame but getting passed over for the Pro Bowl so many times probably fucked his chances. He should be remembered a lot more than he will be.

I actually think he's still got a decent shot. You need something signature to stand out and his ability to force fumbles was something else
