Based on a sample size of the last link I clicked and nothing else, embedding dramatically increases the likelihood of being clicked.

Just been curious, how often do you guys click song/clip links? Does embedding it make it more likely to be clicked? Are some posters bigger than others? I've always wondered this.

I rarely do unless something in the conversation has me particularly interested. Depending on what device I'm using I often don't even see the links (either Flash doesn't load without prompting, or I scroll through before it loads).

Probably makes me a bit of a curmudgeon in this regard.

Almost never click a link, although ironically if it's an embedded Youtube vid I'll usually open it in a separate tab anyways

A screenshot from an embed is a key element to hook you. As is the poster of course.

Can anyone point me in the direction of percussive music; music where percussion is brought to the forefront?

Examples:

I wouldn't say it's in the forefront, in both of those songs the percussion is fairly low in the mix. I think what you mean is unorthodox, driving percussion in a fairly straightforward, minimal pop setting.

This past week I went to a punk show and hip hop show on back to back nights (both very local / unknown) and while I would say these two types of shows are shows I frequently attend, I had never really considered before how similar they are. Basically both are just way more low key than you'd expect them to be. Or the crowd is more low key than the performer would usually like. Local rap and punk are always at some already small venue, on an off-night. The crowd is always very small and mostly people who are probably involved in making music themselves. There are always four girls or fewer in the crowd. And everyone always spends most of the time just standing and watching very intently, bobbing their head at most. The only difference is who's there. There's like 5% overlap in the crowds. Like there are people I see at every punk show, and people I see at every hip hop show, but so few people I see at both.

It's really noticeable at small punk shows how tame the crowd is. Because the music is always way crazier. It seems like everyone is on the verge of going nuts but doesn't really wanna go to the effort. Note, this does not apply to punk subgenres where moshing and/or dancing is a focal point, such as hardcore. But yeah it's weird because you'd expect the crowd to be crazier. That's their stereotype at least. But the punk crowd is often at indie-rock levels of tameness. I think there's a spectrum of crowd wildness that runs from a coffeeshop folk show to an all-ages mainstream rap show.

it was really cool, brian's band is fantastic which is not surprising i guess. the boston pops was a great addition to the show. not sure how it would have been without them but it certainly was great with them. good vibrations was stupid good with all the violins. id say the violin players were the best part of the orchestra throughout the night. unforgettable performance.
