It's still fucking laughable good lord. Shitty MVP voting history doesn't make him any better. They are not in the same zip code as offensive players. Betts defense rates out better this year but those stats are prone to year to year fluctuations and he is certainly experiencing a huge career high (and defense isn't typically something that greatly improves with MLB experience).

Mookie has been impressive though. There's still a couple months left.

Based on normal MVP voting practices I might guess Altuve over Trout. I might vote that way, too.

How on earth are they not in the same zip code? Betts has more hr, rbi, runs, BA, 1 less sb. If you want to get into sabermetrics you would probably conclude trout is better but that doesnt mean he isnt just as good as trout this year. I dont see this as a blip year in his career. If he isnt in the same zip code you can still be pretty darn close to each other and not be in the same zip code.

In the last couple days the Braves got rid of Aybar, called up Dansby to go 2-4 on his debut, and put two more games between themselves and the Twins in the race to the bottom. Pretty good work all round.

He has more RBI because he's playing on the best team offense in the league rather than carrying a shitty team. He has more runs for the same reason. He plays in a hitters park rather than a pitchers park and he plays in a division with a lot of hitters parks verses with mostly pitchers parks which explains a decent bit of the disparity (though he does have great home run numbers). The big difference between them is their OBP which is a gaping chasm in favor of Trout and that's really all you need to know.

And wRC+ which accounts for all that is 167 for Trout and 142 for Betts. That is a cavernous gap.

Altuve is identical to Trout at the moment - 167.
