Do you know what they sing to close out "One Vision"?

So? Does that making "One Vision" a ridiculous song?

Kind of.

Good to know...

Don't expect too much from it. The remaining members of Queen have say over what is included and apparently they want everything whitewashed into a family-friendly feel-good film which allegedly won't even talk about the AIDS.

Is this from inside reporting or just the trailer backlash? Just curious. Saw a lot of articles yesterday about this but everything I saw was based on that teaser trailer and the synopsis not focusing on AIDS or his sexuality. Nothing I saw came from reports on set. But I haven't looked super hard either.

Sasha Baron Cohen gave that as the exact reason he turned down playing Mercury in the film.

That’s interesting.’ He goes, ‘No no no.’ So I said, ‘Wait a minute. What happens in the second half of the movie?’ And he said, ‘Well, we see how the band carries on from strength to strength.’ And I said, ‘Listen, not one person is going to see a movie where the lead character dies from AIDS and then you carry on to see [what happens to the band].”

these two things don't add up though. how can the movie NOT talk about AIDS but then have him die halfway through the movie? it sounds like they want the movie to be about the legacy of the band post-Mercury, which is self-serving and dumb. but not quite the same thing as ignoring the fact that he died or died from AIDS.

Mercury himself was pretty secretive about his sexuality and his illness, but trying to whitewash it now that everyone knows about it is pretty distasteful.

omg, again- how do you know they are doing this? the Cohen thing was about them focusing too much on post-Mercury, which doesn't have anything to do with how they portray Mercury himself (they could literally show him fucking guys and dying explicitly of AIDS for the first hour and it wouldn't contradict what Cohen said). and that was based on early drafts (if they even had a working script by that point at all). the other reports about "whitewashing" or "hetwashing" are based on a 90 second teaser trailer that showed basically nothing of the movie.

can we at least wait until the thing comes out before we outrage?

It's a Hollywood biopic where a band that cares more about it's corporate brand than anything else at this point has final say on the creative direction of the project, I can take a wild guess how it's going to turn out.
