The idea of making lists for individual platforms is odd at this point because with this generation especially, and aside from Nintendo, the title list is by and large identical.

Agreed, consoles used to have their own distinct identity, aside from Nintendo they really don't anymore.

Saying there is no difference between Xbone and PS4 is weird because even if you literally ignore 90% of the genres and only hear of like CoD and Destiny, PS4 still has exclusive content on those games.

Make yourself a PS4 list and see how much it differentiates from this list aside from switching out Forza for God of War.

I see 7 games in the top 11 that are not available this generation on Xbox http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/ ... 4/filtered

There's also articles like these popping up all the time

1. https://www.polygon.com/2018/1/29/16930 ... -microsoft
2. https://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin ... dcf0c74039

Counting PS2/3 games that were re-released, yes. I don't know why you would do that.

Dude why so fucking snarky? Spider-Man, Last of Us 2, Death Stranding, Days Gone there’s 4 upcoming games that aren’t re-releases. Happy? What the fuck does Microsoft have? Oh boy, I can’t wait to play Halo 6.

Why so defensive? You're now counting games that haven't come out. We're counting exclusives on one hand now.

Sony is definitely stronger than Microsoft in the 1st party department.

I don't even know what Microsoft does besides Halo.

Halo Infinite, Crackdown 3, Gears 5, Ori and the Will of the Wisps.

Really, boo boo and Sherick are dead right. The number of PS4 or X Box One exclusive titles pale in significance compared cross-plats, which I'd argue is great for video games consumers (I'm loving that I don't have to buy both, or even either, to be able to experience the majority of recent or upcoming titles).

Yeah it's great for consumers, it would be amazing to have a device that could play every game, that's how every other form of media works.

But video games are weird, consoles have always been extremely limited in the amount of games they're compatible with, and it's a good thing that we're finally starting to move away from that, however as consoles become more and more alike it no longer really matters which one you get, aside from exclusives which are pretty much only first party games nowadays. Consoles themselves are no longer interesting, Nintendo is the only exception to this.

Older systems had character and that's why they still have so much appeal despite being obsolete, you could tell a game was for the 2600, the NES, the Spectrum, the C64, the Genesis, the SNES, the Neo Geo, the N64, the PS1, etc just by how it looked, sounded and played, they all offered unique gameplay experiences. We don't live in that world anymore, there is no game a PS4, an Xbox One and a modern PC can't all handle without any noticeable differences between them.

How much longer will consoles even be a thing? The internal hardware of home consoles and pcs are pretty much identical now. That's why Nintendo focuses so much on novel controls and finding new ways for players to interact with their games, because they understand that's the only unique experience a console can still offer to consumers, and how long will it be until every piece of hardware can do all that same stuff? What happens to the console industry then?

All those games will be available on PC (Windows 10 or w/e) I'm talking console only exclusives and yeah, even if Sony has done a few remasters, they've all been received really well by reviewers and consumers alike. This generation has at least 2-3 more years left so me pointing to games that are close to release (by that I mean coming later this year or 2019) isn't reaching like Sherick implied. I never said cross-plats were fading or that they're bad, I'm saying PS4 and Xbox exclusives vary significantly. If Sherick is going to give me shit about Sony remastering a few popular titles from last gen, let's shit on Microsoft for making Xbox One backwards compatible halfway through it's lifecycle. More games to play isn't a bad thing.

Halo Infinite is by 343 Industries & that alone should be an immediate red flag but (hopefully) Microsoft knows they need a slam dunk of a game so (hopefully) Halo fans will get what they deserve which is the definitive console shooter they've been clamoring for since Bungie & Microsoft parted ways. No release date has been announced though & it wouldn't surprise me if this is on the next Xbox console. Crackdown 3 has been in developmental hell for years, I won't even say anything else about it. You can Google those stories yourselves. Gears 5 I don't know anything about, Gears 4 seems to have been done pretty well so it'll probably just be more Gears for the fans, but also no release date announced. I'm sure the Ori sequel will be fantastic just like the original but again, I could play it on PC if I wanted to.

I would have given you shit if you'd said the same thing about Xbox titles because it comes down to the same thing. You're making this a PS vs Xbox thing for some reason when the point was a general lack of exclusivity. The reason claiming future releases is ridiculous is because without a release you can't claim them for anything, let alone a "best of" list.

In that case, the X-Box One has no exclusives whatsoever.

I'd argue it is a bad thing when your only real selling point over your competitor is a vanishingly small collection of exclusives.

Well they won't be getting a definitive console shooter, because it's being released on PC too.

In fact...

...you can play all of the above games on PC if you wanted, as and when they come out.

I think you're missing the point a little. The X-Box One is for people who want to play modern, big-budget titles and want the simplicity and relative low-cost of a console. Microsoft have learned it's not in their interest to portion off some of their titles to become X-Box One exclusives when a significant chunk of their consumer-base are Windows users who'd quite like to purchase their titles on PC. They can turn a profit quite easily by just making their platforms attractive to 3rd party devs and to make their exclusive titles available to both console and PC gamers.

This is, on the whole, a welcome strategy from me. Even if I have no desire to play any of the big-name titles, it's great that I can play the majority of new games with what I have now (though I'm looking at upgrading soon, immediately for Total War: Warhammer 2, but also for a bit of future-proofing). I find it immesely peavish that Sony persists with a model that it hasn't fully committed to, to the point of pettiness when it comes to things like not allowing crossplay of multi-player multi-platform games. I'm not buying a PS4 for a handful of titles that I can't play on any other platform. At least with the Switch Nintendo have a sizeable library of unique exclusive games so, were I interested in their stable, I would probably get one. Comparatively the PS4 is in some sort of weird limbo.
