Tonight's series is our first Yankees-Dodgers matchup of the tournament. It's the #1 seed 1996-01 Yankees taking on the #4 seed 1949-56 Dodgers. This Dodgers club went 1-4 against the Yankees in the world series, but they would LOVE to upset one of the Yankees top teams here.

The Yankees had a first round bye and they crushed the 1991-93 Blue Jays in round 2. The Dodgers beat the 1995-97 Rockies in round 1 and then they beat the 1979-81 Expos handily in round 2. The Yankees are the solid favorite here, but Brooklyn is capable of an upset if things go right.

Tomorrow mornings series is a sectional semi-finals between the #7 seed 1969-71 Orioles and the #3 seed 1010-14 Athletics. The winner will play the 1996-2001 Yankees in the Sectional Final. The Orioles played badly in the seeding leagues, and are much better than a #7 seed. They beat Old Hoss Radbourn and the 1882-84 Grays in round 1 and then beat the 1919-21 Indians in round 2. The Athletics beat the 1936-37 Giants in the first round and then beat the 1970-72 Pirates in round 2. Despite the seedings this should be an even series.

1969-70 ORIOLES AND 1910-14 ATHLETICS TIED AT 81-81, ONE EXTRA GAME WILL BE PLAYED!

This was an incredibly close race where neither team ever led by more than 5 games. The Athletics have scored 27 more runs for the season than the Orioles, so the extra game will be played at their ballpark.

Connie Mack has named Chief Bender (16-15, 3.35) as his starter. Earl Weaver will go with Mike Cuellar (13-11, 3.75). Mack has Eddie Plank available if Bender needs help. Weaver may use Dave McNally if Cueller gets knocked out early.

CUELLAR TWO HITS ATHLETICS IN 6-0 ORIOLES WIN TO TAKE THE SERIES!

Mike Cuellar was brilliant today as he shut out the Mighty Athletics on just two hits. The game featured an 89 minute rain delay in the second inning. Danny Murphy was the first batter after the delay and he singled for the A's first hit. Jack Barry singled to lead off the 6th inning, and that was it for the day for the Mack Men. Cuellar walked 4 and struck out 5 for the game.

The Orioles had 11 hits off of Bender, who lasted into the 9th inning before Rube Bressler came in to retire the one batter he faced. Baltimore got on the board in the second inning when Merv Rettenmund had an opposite field solo HR. The Orioles got 4 runs on 5 hits in the 6th inning, highlighted by a 2 run double from Mark Belanger. They then got an insurance run in the 8th on an RBI single from Elrod Hendricks.

Cuellar retired the Athletics in order in both the 8th and 9th innings to close out the game. Baltimore will take on the 1996-2001 Yankees in the Section C Final.

Tonight's series will be a Section D semi-final between the #1 seed 1926-28 Yankees and the #4 seed 1946-49 Red Sox. The Yankees humiliated the 1880-82 White Stockings in the first round and then they beat up on Herman Franks' 1965-67 Giants in round 2. The Red Sox beat the 1918-19 Cubs in round one and then had a surprisingly easy time with the 1967-69 Tigers in round 2. Look for a lot of runs in this series with late 1940s Fenway Park hosting half of the games.

1926-28 YANKEES LAMBASTE THE 1946-48 RED SOX, 102-60!

This legendary Yankee team made mince meat out of the Red Sox here, winning the series by 42 games. The Bombers outscored Boston by 166 runs on the season. The Yankees crashed 226 home runs and 291 doubles and slugged .464 as a team with their pitchers hitting all season. Yankee pitchers held Ted Williams in check with just 26 HR and 94 RBI, but Babe Ruth loved the new dimensions in Fenway and clobbered the Red Sox pitching for 76 HR and 189 RBI.

Tomorrow morning's series is a Section D semi-final featuring the #2 seed 1906-08 Cubs against the #3 seed 1960-64 Yankees. The Cubs beat up on the 1949-50 Tigers in round 1 and the 1978-79 "We Are Fam-Lee" Pirates in round 2. The Yankees hammered the 1984-85 Padres in the first round and then beat the 1993-94 Expos in the second round. This looks to be a close series.
