You haven't really articulated how exactly this is any different from the 1967 year list we already have. This seems redundant to that list.

Like I said, this is really pretty the same. But here I want to see not the best albums of 1967, rather albums, which are mostly connected and associated with Summer of Love, and like I said, with all so respect to jazz, soul and blues, I think that bigger part of that list should be made by psychedelic, rock n roll and other genre albums, which are once again associated with that period, and were very important at that time. I don’t know how to explain this correctly, but lest say, it should be the “face and the voice” of Summer of Love, in which case I think were works of such musicians like Beatles, Love, Jimmy Hendrix Expirience, Jefferson Airplane etc.

If you can't articulate easily why you're making the list and what makes it any different from the 1967 list other than it being just that list but with only the guitar rock bands, then why are you making it?

Also, I'm gonna bet you that Otis Redding was a way bigger part of the Summer of Love than The Beau Brummels or Blossom Toes. Otis gave one of the most famous performances at the Monterey Pop Festival, the landmark event of that summer.

Like I said, this is is a “specific criteria”, if you don’t want to go with that, ok. I’m just proposed. But like I said, here should be every album which are than, and now mostly associated with summer of love spirit.

"Disraeli Gears" came out in Fucking November.

Also not so sure about Velvet Underground & Nico being on there even if it came out in around the right time frame. It was a huge commercial flop and I don't imagine that many people were listening to the album during the summer of love. Almost all of it's popularity is retroactive and I'm not sure if it is really a summer of love album.

I understand that. You’re absolutely correct. I think Velvet Underground and Nico made some impact on Summer Of Love, not as huge as Sgt Pepper or Axis:Bold, but made. It could be easily in top 30-40 of the list, but if we talk to overall impact of 1967 music, then it should be in top 5-10. And that’s the difference between the lists of best albums from Summer Of Love and Best albums of the year. See what I mean?

Nope.

The hippies hated the Velvet Underground in the summer of 1967. Nobody who was 15 to 25 years old in 1967 thinks that group is any good. 99% of people who like it were not even born yet in 1967. Top 30-40, my fucking ass. It's not even top 300-400. They played at a high school near here in 1967, along with some other acts. I know people who were there. When they came on almost the entire auditorium emptied out. Everybody thought they sucked.

PS - I still think they suck now.

I would probably add at least one album from most if not all performers at the monterey pop festival.

What makes the "Summer Of Love" mostly guitar rock. I mean a lot of it was Psychedelic Rock but I don't think any decently successful guitar rock band with an album this year should be prioritized above Otis Redding. Also many of these will be hard to associate with the "Summer Of Love
because they couldn't have been played during the summer of love because the came out after the summer.

I agree, Otis was very influential during Summer Of Love, I think as influential as Jefferson Airplane. The Who, Hendrix, Quicksilver Messanger Service, The Byrds, Janis Joplin and the Beatles

Let's look at the Billboard Album chart for the week that the summer started and the week that it ended.

Here's the issue from the start of the summer of 1967:

https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-A ... -06-24.pdf

The album chart starts on page 36. The number on album is "Headquarters" by the Monkees. The next rock album is "I Never Loved A Man" by Aretha Franklin at #4. "Surrealistic Pillow" is #6. "More of the Monkees" is still in the top 10 at #7. "Sgt. Pepper" debuted on the chart this week at #8. "The Mamas And Papas Deliver" is #9.

The Doors first album went from #51 the week before to #20 this week. The Temptations Greatest Hits was a huge album at parties in those days, and it's at #22 this week. After "Sgt. Pepper" the next highest debut this week is "Rewind" by Johnny Rivers at #112.

The rest of the chart continues on page 44. "Freak Out" by the Mothers of Invention" debuted this week at #196.

Okay, here's the last week of the summer:

https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-A ... -09-23.pdf

The album chart starts on page 40. The number one album is "Sgt. Pepper." "The Doors" is #2. "Flowers" by the Stones is #3. "Headquarters" by the Monkees is #4. "Groovin'" by the Young Rascals is $5. And the song "Groovin'" just might be THE TOP song of the Summer of Love." "Surrealistic Pillow" is #6 and "Aretha Arrives" is #7. "With A Lot O' Soul" by the Temptations is #8. Number 9 is "Ode To Bliie Joe" and "the "Reach Out" album by the 4 Tops is #11.

"Are You Experienced" went from #36 to #12 this week in its 5th week on the chart, and was a FAR bigger album AFTER the Summer of Love than during it. It was Billboard's top album of 1968 actually. The Vanilla Fudge album went from #200 the prior week to #31 this week. The first Procol Harum album was the highest debut of the week, at #101.

"Sgt. Pepper" is clearly the top album of the summer.

As for the top songs of the summer, I'd say, in alphabetical order

What happened to this guy?

I did a bunch of the research for him and he disappeared without even commenting on it.

Thanks for your help, But like I said, this is really hard topic. I have to think which albums should make the list. But like I said, although I agree with you at some point, I would like to make some controversial picks, you totally dislike) so, sorry for that)
