I think I like Akira over Ran, too. The former has considerable influence on animated films, possibly enough to make up for the latter's clear win in acclaim. And then Akira, I would think, has at least a little advantage in popularity. Either way, they're in the same ballpark overall, I'd say.

I could get on board with that too.

I wouldn't have Raise the Red Lantern over In the Mood for Love. The latter has more than four times views on IMDb (without adjusting for era but these films are only 9 years apart) and ranked much more generously on tspdt (the top 20 vs the top 500). I would maybe give influence to Raise the Red Lantern but I don't think it's enough to overturn the match-up.

Very good point, I'll hold off on it then.

Our Hospitality seems a bit high. I'd clearly give Meet Me in St. Louis and To Be or Not To Be acclaim and popularity so I'd put it at 246.

Also I'd give a lot of the movies below Gravity acclaim and influence.
Comparing it with 2 movies that are 10+ spots below it
Gravity vs Memento
Initial Popularity: Gravity easily
Lasting Popularity: Memento fairly easily
Initial Acclaim: Close, maybe Gravity
Lasting Critical Acclaim: Memento
Lasting Audience Acclaim: Memento easily
Influence: Memento

Popularity: Gravity
Acclaim: Memento
Influence: Memento

Gravity vs The Manchurian Candidate
Initial Popularity: Gravity easily
Lasting Popularity: Hard to compare since 2010s films are disproportionately favored on pretty much all the rating sites. Maybe a tie
Initial Acclaim: Pretty much a tie
Lasting Critical Acclaim: The Manchurian Candidate
Lasting Audience Acclaim: The Manchurian Candidate
Influence: The Manchurian Candidate by quite a bit

Popularity: Gravity fairly easily
Acclaim: The Manchurian by a small amount
Influence: The Manchurian Candidate by quite a bit

Boyhood vs Moonlight
Initial Popularity: Tie
Lasting Popularity: Close, leaning towards Moonlight
Initial Acclaim: Pretty much a tie
Lasting Critical Acclaim: Moonlight
Lasting Audience Acclaim: Seems pretty close
Influence: Neither has much but leaning towards Moonlight

Popularity: Pretty much a tie
Acclaim: Moonlight slightly
Influence: Moonlight by a small amount

Maybe we could put Moonlight right above it, or something.

I don't know if we need Moonlight on here before La La Land or arguably A Separation.

Well, I'd say it has very similar, and probably better, credentials to Boyhood so if it's below those two, Boyhood probably should as well

Well, paul wanted to get Boyhood on the list as far back as when we were at #126-150 range. Would be kinda cruel to deny it to him now. Anyway, wanna wrap up this section?

Just saying but Boyhood has quite a bit better rating on IMDb than Moonlight. Is it cause Moonlight is viewed as a "woke" movie? Plausible but still. Also, while Moonlight is now rated higher than Boyhood on tspdt it's also a rather recent development.

All good points, I could certainly see Memento above Gravity.

I’m a little concerned how much we are pushing Boyhood down. Like we’ve mentioned before, it is one of the absolute most acclaimed films of all time, especially for a modern film. I’m also not seeing a justification for Moonlight to leapfrog both La La Land & A Separation (A Separation in particular wins both influence and audience acclaim pretty easily). Just my thought - but I’m totally fine with Boyhood staying where it is and letting the other 2010’s films wait for later.

Well, I did originally suggest moving moonlight up, not the other way around.
