Greatest Classical Art Songs
Criteria: Songs and cycles are ranked based primarily by their general reputation for excellence, which includes both popularity within the classical community and the views of writers and musicians. Historical importance is a secondary consideration. Those cycles and collections that have both a version for voice and piano and one for voice and multiple instruments are classified by which version is generally considered more significant, with the original version favored if the two are about equal. The phrase "cycles and collections" is used because those lists are intended to be broad enough to include collections of songs that aren't technically song cycles. All lists are limited to works with one voice.
