Looking at this again, I'd probably move MDwA ahead of both.

ManPerson wrote: Wed Jul 16, 2025 7:30 amI'm curious how Strictly Ballroom and Elvis compare.
Influence: Strictly Ballroom but I don't think it's much
Initial and lasting popularity: Elvis clearly
Initial and lasting acclaim: Strictly Ballroom by little, especially considering Elvis probably wins audience acclaim

Re: Movie Directors' Top Films

I object neither to having TP as Lynch's #1, nor to including The Return as part of it. What about Fire Walk with Me then? Should that also just be included under the "Twin Peaks" banner or should that become #10?

Re: Movie Directors' Top Films

As I said, I'd include Twin Peaks as just one entry, which leaves room for another film. Also, Ted above American Dad? Surprising since I've seen lots of people say it's even better than Family Guy, while Ted has always been a kinda mediocre film.

My reasoning for Ted > American Dad! was the ...

Re: Movie Directors' Top Films

Tough to call...but I'm wondering if THX was closer to making the 1970's list than Phantom Menace was to making the 1990's list. I suppose you could argue it was Robert Duvall's first leading role as well.

I'd argue that Episode 1 wins popularity by more than THX wins acclaim and influence. I'd ...

Re: Small topics

BTW, speaking of AcclaimedMusic again, VacantJoy, who had always been kind of a douche, started derailing the thread, in which Henrik announced his farewell, eventually losing it completely and getting himself banned in the end. For everyone who still thinks former DDD posters are the only ones ...

Re: Movie Directors' Top Films

OK, but we have different discussions going on now. What we do with TP is one thing but what about TV series in general? Do we want to

a) allow them if the director in question co-created them, and can be seen as the main driving force behind this creation?
b) allow them if the director in ...

I could see this going either way and am good with swapping.

Wow, I wonder why he's hanging it up. And I'm surprised no one would be willing to take it over.

He's long had health issues that kept him from being online much, plus work and family. Here's what he wrote on the Acclaimed Music forums the day before yesterday:

Dear all AM forumers,

It is ...

Re: Movie Directors' Top Films

You could add a TV series if the director directed at least half of it, which makes Twin Peaks eligible for the Lynch list since he directed all of the third season plus the movie.

That'd be cheating, considering that "The Return" is listed separately, and I wouldn't consider the original series ...

Re: Movie Directors' Top Films

As I said, I don't see a problem with listing "Get Smart" on Brooks' list since the series is associated with him even though he eventually stopped directing any of it. Maybe renaming the list something like "Movie directors' top works" or even "Movie auteurs' top works" would currently be more ...
