Re: Greatest Glam Rock Artists (Revision Version)

Personally, I don't think date-range qualifiers are necessary for Van Halen and Bon Jovi. For Van Halen, for instance, the RateYourMusic consensus at the moment is that glam metal is "only" a secondary genre for Van Halen's 1978 self-titled debut, but that album, more than any other, is most ...

Re: Greatest Glam Rock Artists (Revision Version)

The top ten list of glam metal artists looks really good. The top three couldn't be better. However, would date-range qualifiers be necessary for Kiss and Alice Cooper? They were glam rock since the 1970s, but didn't become glam metal until a little later. Maybe something like "Kiss (1983-1993 ...

Re: Greatest Rock Artists Of All Time (Revision Version)

Would Devo have a shot at a list like this? Their popularity isn't stellar (though "Whip It" can still be heard on the radio, at least in the United States, and the album Freedom of Choice went platinum), but they were very early New Wave pioneers. According to Wikipedia, their musical short film ...

Re: Greatest Rock Artists Of All Time (Revision Version)

With Journey being talked about for inclusion on the list, I feel the need to put in a good word for Boston ( the number two classic-era AOR/melodic rock artist on the website's list of them ).

I'm not demanding that they be on the list, but I'm just presenting their criteria, which I think, with ...

Re: Greatest Adventure Movies (Revision Version)

Looks phenomenal!

The only things I'd change is I'd add Michael Caine to the Zulu cast (he gets the "Introducing" credit, I believe, though it's not his first movie) and add Howl's Moving Castle to the animation section (which could free up a spot for either The Wind and the Lion or The Most ...

Peter O'Toole should probably be listed in the Lawrence of Arabia cast.

Re: Greatest Adventure Movies (Revision Version)

This list rocks. I'm happy to see it.

However, while Lawrence of Arabia is more prestigious than Raiders of the Lost Ark and would probably be ranked higher on a regular "greatest of all time" list, I could see ROTLA being higher on a list weighted towards adventure film elements. ROTLA is what ...

Re: Greatest Thriller Movies (Revision Version)

I don't want to sound pushy, but I think a solid case could be made for Bullitt (1968) to appear on the list. It was, if I'm not mistaken, the first in the wave of loose-cannon cop thrillers that included the likes of Dirty Harry and The French Connection . While it's sometimes described as an ...

Re: Greatest Thriller Movies (Revision Version)

Gotcha, just wanted to make sure. Genre perimeters can be tricky.

Also, I absolutely love The Untouchables (1987). It's a ten-outta-ten movie to me. However, is it a thriller? Yes, it has one of the all-time great suspense set-pieces (the train station staircase part), but, to me, it seems more ...

Re: Greatest Thriller Movies (Revision Version)

This is a really, really well-done list! I think that you nailed the definition of "thriller." Very fair.

The only omission that could be considered "glaring" would be White Heat (1949).

Anyway, other than White Heat , here are some thrillers to think about , as they're mostly other genres, but ...

Re: Greatest Film Performances by Year (US/UK) (Revision Version)

Maybe Lon Chaney's performance in The Penalty (1920) could be considered? I don't think that it's technically considered his breakout role - that would probably be his role in the now-lost The Miracle Man (1919) - but, as far as movies that are still available-to-watch go, I think that that's ...

Re: Greatest Film Scores (Revision Version)

The new list is awesome. I dig it! This is sort of a weird thing to say, but I would love, if some day, a YouTube video was made with a collage/suite sampling all of these picks as a countdown.

R.I.P., The Wind and the Lion and The Untouchables being on the list, though.

Re: Greatest Film Scores (Revision Version)

Is the criteria for the new list the same as the old one? Anyway, I like this list, and am happy to see The Magnificent Seven in the top ten and High Noon just outside it.

Some other things:

-the score for Dr. No is credited to Monty Norman, not John Barry.

-I could easily see this being a top ...

Re: Favorite Films of the 21st Century

I'm very happy to see A.I. Artificial Intelligence so high on your list. It's probably the most underrated movie of all time, and it's number one on my list of my favorite films of the twenty-first century thus far.

My taste in movies is admittedly very pedestrian, but here are my personal ...

Re: Greatest Action Movies (Revision Version)

I would support a side-list for action-adjacent films. Another movie that could make such a side-list could be Metropolis (1927), since the last third of that sci-fi epic is one action-adventure set-piece piled on, one after another.

Anyway, defining what constitutes an action movie is incredibly ...
