pauldrach wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2026 9:20 am As I see it, these are the latest versions of newly proposed lists:

Robert Palmer/The Power Station
1. Riptide
2. The Power Station
3. Heavy Nova
4. Secrets
5. Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley

I could see getting rid of the Power Station entirely and adding Clues at #5

I thought a bit about where to go from here and this is the list through the top 40.

I'll add artists (from one of our lists? Rock Hall inductees?) eventually

1. Atlantic
2. Capitol
3. Motown/Tamla
4. Columbia
5. RCA/Victor
6. Warner Bros.
7. EMI
8. A&M
9. Parlophone
10. Sun
11. Island
12. Elektra ...

So right now I have this for a top 25. I tried to get a lot of the big ones in this one

1. Atlantic
2. Capitol
3. Motown/Tamla
4. Columbia
5. RCA/Victor
6. Warner Bros.
7. EMI
8. A&M
9. Parlophone
10. Sun
11. Island
12. Elektra
13. Stax/Volt
14. Chess/Checker/Cadet
15. Epic
16. Decca
17 ...

Thanks for those suggestions, I added them in there.

New list idea. I don't think we've ever thought of this one before. There's a greatest jazz labels list on the site, but not one of these.

Criteria will be something like:
1. Importance on the history of popular music
2. Quality/acclaim of its output and roster
3. Popularity both as a label and its ...

"Pinball Wizard" seems too high. I'd put "Levon" and "Sacrifice" ahead of it, and maybe "I Don't Wanna Go on with You Like That" too.

I'm pretty happy with the outcome for the main performers. My only real regret is that they didn't induct Mariah. If they had inducted her instead of Billy idol, it would have been a near perfect outcome for the ballot that they were given.

I concur here. This is a quite terrific class with a ...

That's the issue I have with a lot of Rock Hall pundits online, is that they do not explore the music of the other artists they do not know well, and go based entirely on their assumptions. And I bet they would really hate it if someone did the same thing to their favorite nominee. It would be just ...

It would be good if you could at least be more selective about the links you post. We already know that every year, rockists will complain about the Hall considering artists that don't fit comfortably into the '70s guitar band mode. In one of the videos, the host didn't even think that INXS was ...

If I were voting with this ballot, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Mariah Carey, and Wu-Tang Clan would get my vote. Oasis, P!nk, and Sade would most likely be the other three I'd vote for.

Add Phil Collins and Shakira and we have the same top artists. I think both of them are more ...

a bunch of links to rant videos

What purpose is there in linking all these angry rant videos on here? No one's going to watch any of them.

Jeff Buckley is truly great, but I don't understand how they could forget about his father. Tim Buckley deserves to be in the Hall of Fame just as much as Jeff.

Tim Buckley doesn't have the lasting appeal or the popularity really. He has very limited name recognition, mostly connected to either ...

He is way ahead of the Black Crowes though. Maybe I should have called them the biggest head scratcher on the list.

I think The Black Crowes have one of the weakest cases for induction of this batch of nominees, as was the case last year. They had a couple hit records, their most enduring song ...

Feel tying influence to innovation specifically is more of a ddd thing, the more casual usage would be as a synonym for inspiration (or effect) which I think a lot of notable artists cited Buckley as.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Thom Yorke described Jeff Buckley as a significant ...

If I had a ballot it would be

Mariah Carey
INXS
Iron Maiden
Joy Division/New Order
Sade
Luther Vandross
Wu-Tang Clan

I'd also consider Jeff Buckley, Phil Collins, and Lauryn Hill.

I find Jeff Buckley to be the biggest head scratcher on the ballot. If an artist is going to be inducted mostly for one album, I think it should be a more commercially successful album than Buckley's or more influential. If they're going to nominate an artist mostly for acclaim, why not Sonic ...

List is now up.

(for my editor's pick)

You might want to PM this to Lew

I was going to ask if "Anxiety" by Doechii is really a 2025 song, but it looks like it was originally a 2019 song that she re-recorded in 2025, so I'd say that counts

I would maybe switch "True Believer" and "Parachute" for Hayley Williams, unless you're basing those positions on year-end list ...
