Re: Greatest Classical Music Piano and Organ Works (Revision Version)

I'm about to send the updated lists to Lew. In this post are the old lists, which I'm posting here so that there will be a record of them in the forum.

1. Toccata and Fugue in D minor - Johann Sebastian Bach
2. Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme - Johann Sebastian Bach
3. Fugue in G minor, "Little G ...

Re: Greatest Classical Conductors and Musicians

I don't know much about ballet dancers, but I imagine those are good lists. Ballet dancers are kind of a miscellaneous category - not musicians, and not really athletes either. They fit here as well as anywhere.

Re: Greatest Classical Music Piano and Organ Works

 Right, I thought giving him the entire top 4 was good enough. Another thing that I found odd about the old list was that after all the works at the top of the list, not a single Bach work appeared on the rest of the list, as if there were a big divide between his 14th greatest work and 15th ...

Re: Greatest Classical Music Piano and Organ Works

I've revised the Organ Works and Composers for Organ lists. For now, I will post them in this post, and in about a week I'll post them in the first post and send them to Lew. Here they are:

Greatest Organ Works
1. Toccata & Fugue in D minor, BWV565 - Johann Sebastian Bach
2. Fantasia and Fugue in ...

Re: 100 Greatest Novellas

I will scrap it. It creates unnecessary confusion. I'll quote the 2 sentences below so that those reading this thread in the future will know what the discussion was about:

"Sometimes one book may be more acclaimed as a novella while another may be more acclaimed as a general work of literature ...

Re: 100 Greatest Novellas

What I'm trying to say in a brief manner is that in researching the list I would look up greatest novellas, the consensus would seem to be one thing, but when looking up greatest works of literature and picking out the novellas from that list, they would tend to be ranked a little differently. For ...

Re: 100 Greatest Novellas

Here are 4 more that I had enough doubt about them being the right length that I left them off the list, but probably would make the list if they're the right length:

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark
Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto
Bear by Marian Engel
Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang ...

100 Greatest Novellas (Revision Version)

Criteria: A novella is a short novel, for this list defined as one with a length of 17,500-40,000 words. The novellas are ranked primarily by their long-term acclaim and popularity, with their influence and historical importance as a secondary consideration.

Re: Greatest Classical Art Songs

Thanks, Fido! That reminds me that though it's true that almost all of the lists are mine, the Organ Works list (on the Keyboard Works page) is still the list that Guy created. I probably should update that, especially since the page gives me sole credit. And the Guitarists list is George's.

Re: Greatest Jazz Albums

Maybe we should replace it with Spiritual Unity ;)

I would support that. To keep it simple, Spiritual Unity could be put at #79, and the artist listing at #143 could be corrected.

Another listing that needs an artist correction is this one:

171. Sonny Side Up - Sonny Rollins

The artist ...

If you mean for the decade list, I'll consider that.

Re: Top Ten Rock Albums of Each Year 1990-1999

My lists aren't all genres. The part of each list that overlaps with the decade list is intended to be entirely rock. Below that point, I go a little bit broader, including such things as The Bodyguard Soundtrack and Shania Twain's Come on Over, but with the intention of only including things ...
