Re: Greatest Rock Artists Of All Time (Revision Version)
Not too shuure about it, Dominoes strike me as clearly more influential as you have to credit large part of Clyde McPhatters influence (#12 on Sampson's list) to them. Then there's Sixty Minute Man, one of the earliest rock crossover successes and their reputation as the top rock act of the early ...

Sampson, on Spontaneous Lunacy:
"Roy Brown’s vocal prowess, stylistic versatility, deep song catalog and massive influence along with his immeasurable impact for coming up with the components of rock in the first place and spreading the sound to masses with hit after hit in its formative years ...

Re: Greatest Rock Artists Of All Time (Revision Version)
C'mon, WHO? What was the big soft rock album before their debut in 1972?
Tapestry and Sweet Baby James
Agreed, and I think Elton John's Honky Chateau, released 2 weeks before Eagles self-titled and a bigger album, qualifies too. Maybe also Paul Simon's solo debut. But as I recall, Sampson ...

Re: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
I'm pretty happy with the outcome for the main performers. My only real regret is that they didn't induct Mariah. If they had inducted her instead of Billy idol, it would have been a near perfect outcome for the ballot that they were given.
I concur here. This is a quite terrific class with a ...

Re: Greatest Rock Artists Of All Time (Revision Version)
I think Pixies are very comparable to Tribe in all the criteria, while being more acclaimed and influential than many of the artists I have below them.
I also see Dionne Warwick as very comparable with Diana Ross, though I guess she could lose some points for being somewhat borderline as a rock ...

Re: Greatest Adventure Movies (Revision Version)
I added Michael Caine to the Zulu listing, and you're quite right that Howl's Moving Castle should be on the animated movies list, so I made that move. At least for now, I've added The Wind and the Lion to the list. I think's it's ...

Re: Greatest Rock Artists Of All Time (Revision Version)
Is there other '50s artists you reckon are getting shafted, Brian?
Other than The Clovers, I'd say The Platters and Ruth Brown are the most underrated on your last revision. I think Jackie Wilson, who's partly '50s and partly '60s, is also underrated. Other listed ones outside the top 110 ...

Re: Greatest Rock Artists Of All Time (Revision Version)
The '50s artists seem to be generally getting moved down, at least the ones who aren't in the top 60. The Clovers have especially been dropped quite a lot, despite being probably the greatest rock artist of the first half of the '50s .
That may be true but that was the last half decade pre ...
