Re: Movie Directors' Top Films

Here's what wiki has to say (not necessary contradicting what you said)

The film was shot in Northern Wellington over the course of four years, and eventually received nearly a quarter of a million dollars in New Zealand Film Commission assistance, providing Jackson with the leverage necessary to ...

Guess I can see it beating his current #9-10 entries.

Re: Greatest Film Score Composers (Revision Version)

Well, as far as film scores go, Stephen Schwartz primarily served as a lyricist so I don't think he is a must have for this list. From wiki:

Film
Butterflies Are Free (1969) – title song (play and movie)
Godspell (1973) – composer, lyricist
Pocahontas (1995) – lyricist
The Hunchback of Notre Dame ...

ManPerson wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 3:42 pm I see Vangelis' credentials as being pretty close to Glass'. As I see it, Glass has a better body of work, Vangelis is a bit more influential and acclaim is pretty much a tie.
So #37 for Vangelis? I wouldn't mind that.

ManPerson wrote: Thu May 08, 2025 3:48 pm Nino Rota's placement seems fine with me, honestly. I don't see any part of the crtieria where Bernstein clearly wins against him.
I was thinking he wins acclaim with his stronger award resume but the disparity pretty easily can be explained by Rota being primarily non-Hollywood composer.

Re: Greatest Film Score Composers (Revision Version)

I am not dogmatically opposed to having either Vangelis or Basil Poledouris higher but I'd prefer some concrete names you guys see them beating by criteria (influence, acclaim, body of work).

Outside of his The Godfather fame, Nino Rota is highly regarded for his collaborations with Fellini ...

Suggestion for a new spot? I can see him at #40 but not much higher than that as of now.

Checked it on the old forum, you appeared to agree with Sherick's suggestion to raise him just below Danny Elfman. ManPerson agreed as well.

Re: Movie Directors' Top Films

Think this breakdown slightly favors Gentlemen Prefer Blondes even though Sergeant York is ranked higher on the 1940s list (#65) than Gentlemen Prefer Blondes on the 1950s list (#87).
