I'm pretty happy with the outcome for the main performers. My only real regret is that they didn't induct Mariah. If they had inducted her instead of Billy idol, it would have been a near perfect outcome for the ballot that they were given.

I concur here. This is a quite terrific class with a "something for everybody" feel to it.

The side category choices are extremely good, too. Delighted to see Fela Kuti, Celia Cruz, and Gram Parsons in. It's been a long time coming for all three of them.

Only one I'm a bit mixed on is Ed Sullivan. But even though his program wasn't strictly a music show, he is central to some of the most important music moments of the 20th century, so I don't think he's an outrageous choice. Seems like a "why not 30 years ago?" choice, though.

New Edition won the fan vote, but not getting inducted the same year as one of their idols, Phil Collins.

Phil Collins is the only second time inductee this year.

Mariah Carey and Luther Vandross did a remake of Endless Love by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross, but only Luther Vandross is being inducted this year.

Yes, I'm OK with Ed Sullivan. Having the Beatles on his show just as they were breaking though in the US is a pretty big moment in rock, and he had many other big rock acts on. But yes, they could just as easily have inducted him 30 years ago.
