Viy (1967) might be a good choice for the list.

Other movies to consider are Alexei German’s "My Friend Ivan Lapshin" and "Khrustalev, My Car!" Their ratings are generally even higher than "Hard to Be a God". Alexander Sokurov's “Mother and Son” and “Russian Ark” would also be suitable.

#81 The Golden Calf - Mikhail Schweitzer (1968)
#81 King Lear - Grigori Kozintsev & Iosif Shapiro (1971)
#82 Deserter - Vsevolod Pudovkin (1933)
#85 Ivan - Alexander Dovzhenko (1932)
#87 The Steamroller and the Violin - Andrei Tarkovsky (1961)
#88 Father of a Soldier - Rezo Chkheidze (1964)
#93 The Great Consoler - Lev Kuleshov (1933)

Films in brackets are probably nor eligible. I'm unsure about some others but left them in for now if Wikipedia said that Russian was at least among the spoken languages.

This is the problem with using IMDb charts unreviewed. 9.6/10 from 75 ratings. Shouldn't be anywhere near any list.

“At Home Among Strangers” is a far more significant and acclaimed work by Mikhalkov than “12”. “Barber of Siberia” seems overrated; it marked the beginning of Mikhalkov's artistic decline. “The Steamroller and the Violin” is simply Tarkovsky's graduation film and is relatively little-known outside circles of scholars and enthusiasts of his work. I don't think it's essential to include it on the list.

Hi Lew! Thanks for putting the list together. I went through the published version and noticed quite a few typos and a few factual inaccuracies. I thought I'd point them out so they can be corrected.

Misspelled names:

#3 - Stalker: Nikolay Grink → Nikolay Grinko

#28 - Heart of a Dog: Evgeniy Evstignee → Evgeniy Evstigneev

#44 - Twenty Days Without War: Aleksei Germa → Aleksei German

#72 - Afonya: Leonid Kuravlyo → Leonid Kuravlyov

#74 - At Home Among Strangers: Anatoliy Solonitsy → Anatoliy Solonitsyn

#90 - The Rifleman of the Voroshilov Regiment: Irina Rozanov → Irina Rozanova

Other spelling and transliteration errors:

#3 - Stalker: "Сталкер (stóker)" → "Сталкер (Stalker)"

#5 - Solaris: "giong insane" → "going insane"

#26 - Pokrov Gates: "apatment" → "apartment"

#37 - The House I Live In: "appartment" → "apartment"

#47 - The Brothers Karamazov: "Dostoeyevsky's" → "Dostoevsky's"

#60 - Kin-dza-dza!: The original Russian title should be "Кин-дза-дза!", not "Кин-Дза-Дза!"

#64 - Brother 2: "Vengence" → "Vengeance"

#67 - Arsenal: "arsenál" → "Arsenal"

#68 - Dead Man's Letters: "Sci-F" → "Sci-Fi"

#81 - Assa: "Асса (Асса)" → "Асса (Assa)"

#89 - Country of the Deaf: "boyfriens's" → "boyfriend's"

#96 - Peter the First: "Pyotr pervyy I" → "Pyotr Pervyy" (the Roman numeral is redundant).

Cast, director credits and descriptions:

#6 - The Mirror: Ignat Daniltsev is listed twice. One instance could be replaced with Oleg Yankovskiy or Nikolay Grinko.

#14 - Ivan's Childhood: Eduard Abalov shouldn't be credited as co-director alongside Andrei Tarkovsky. Abalov worked on an earlier, abandoned version of the project, while the completed film was directed by Tarkovsky alone.

#54 - Prisoner of the Mountains: Susanna Mekhraliyeva is listed twice. One instance could be replaced with Dzhemal Sikharulidze.

#58 - Letter Never Sent: The director is Mikhail Kalatozov, not Mikheil Kalatozishvili. These are two different filmmakers.

#61 - The Garage: The cast selection seems rather unusual, since it mainly features actors in minor roles. Liya Akhedzhakova, Valentin Gaft, Iya Savvina and Andrey Myagkov would be much more representative choices.

#70 - Courier: "Romance during the fall of communism" seems misleading. I'd suggest changing it to "Romance during the early years of perestroika", which would be more historically accurate.

#74 - At Home Among Strangers: The description mentions the Civil War and 1917, but the story actually takes place in the early 1920s, after the Civil War.

#81 - Assa: The cast list omits the three main actors: Sergei Bugaev, Tatyana Drubich and Stanislav Govorukhin. Viktor Tsoi would also be a more representative choice.

#90 - The Rifleman of the Voroshilov Regiment: The protagonist is avenging the rape of his granddaughter, not his daughter.

Animated films:

#6 - The Mystery of the Third Planet: The original 1981 film was directed by Roman Kachanov alone. Glenn Stanton shouldn't be listed as a co-director.

One final suggestion regarding the ranking itself:

I'd suggest replacing Żuławski's Boris Godunov (1989) at #35 with Kozintsev's Hamlet (1964). Kozintsev's Hamlet is one of the most famous and critically acclaimed film adaptations of Shakespeare's play, both in Russia and internationally. Żuławski's Boris Godunov, on the other hand, received a lot of criticism and remains relatively obscure, both in Russia and abroad. I think Hamlet would be a much better choice.

Thanks DmitryXenon

I've made your corrections.
If you find any more or think something should be moved or added let me know.

On a side note:
I was hoping Yandex (Russia's Google) would index this list and our rankings and pass them on to wikipedia.ru where there are already many links to ddd lists. That's why I added the Cyrillic script titles. I thought that might help.

But since I began this list the Yandex data centers have been badly damaged. (And that's a good thing!)
But unlucky timing on my part.
